I define "the zone" as when 60 is already a stretch and 80 is over the edge .

I would have to trade in my M3 but with this type of discount it's tempting enough to consider . They just are limited with the car I want and I am not desperate enough to travel too far or dig too deep to buy it .

If the car was there and the price is right then I think a lot of people on 6speed would buy them and this time around the 09 recent discounts push that envelope a wee bit more.

What I don't understand is why you won't go the 2 hrs to get THE car you want. Once you own it, then you can do all the other stuff locally. I currenty have 3 Porsches and one came as far away as Colorado (930 slantnose) 997 from Naples and the Boxster locally. All are gladly welcomed at Champion !!

I would drive two hours . I don't want another black Porsche though. One is enough and I wanted a different color . Plus we got close on price but not close enough .

Hey Larry,

While I feel that you're thinking too much, I agree with you that your turbo is too powerful to be used as a daily driver.

The trade-in of your M3 sounds reasonable, I will go ahead with the trade for a 997.2, or have you ever consider the new Cayman S or Boxster S? Sounds like a fun DD if you don't need the room at the back.

And to go along with preserving that special feeling of your modded 997TT. Let's say you have a great sexual relationship with your girlfriend. Does that mean you should have less sex with her from now on?

Statistically , married folks do in fact have less sex and maybe one aspect might be related to the novelty eroding after years of daily driving .

With divorce rates so high it seems like the pattern of changing relationships is more like serial monogamy where a one on one relationship breaks up and a new one is formed .

With cars it's not the same comparison . One can have as many cars as he wants and separate each for the joy it brings . A car is a thing it has no feelings . The only thing which one must consider is his feelings whiich imany aspects is much less complicated than any interpesonal relationship .

So today I thought of my choices . The cheapest was to do NOTHING . Not bad huh ? The most expensive was to buy a gt3 ? In either scenario there is some level of missing something . I don't love the M3 . I love the Turbo so much that I refuse to drive it daily. The Gt3 makes no sense but I would love that too much and want it to be a garage queen .

I asked my tuner about modding the M3 . His simple question of what type of mods had me adding up all the parts and figuring it was not the thing to do . By the time I mod the M3 I cou;ld practically trade it in on an 09 997S for the 20 percent off.

So I went to the dealership. Oh boy .. here we go again . They only had one manual car . Tons of PDK cars . I drove a PDK car . Nice .. but not for me.

I called two other dealerships . One had a great car and they made a nice offer saving me a two hour drive . The only problem was that it was a black car and my Turbo is black and i kinda want something different . BTW the black car has limited slip diff , carrera classic wheels . manual . all kinds of good $h*t . But I already have a black car.

Plus I really like the guys locally .

So I wait . Confused and realizing that the Jersey 1977's car deal took its toll on my Porsche buying emotions.

I have a feeling I am not alone .
Exactly - It's hard to ignore these discounts! I lurked here last summer and got a great education. In the end I leased an M5 for 24 months ($1K per month). At this point I'm glad I didn't commit more $$ to any purchase. I'm halfway thru my M5 lease and as much as I LOVE the car I keep thinking 911 for a long term acquisition/relationship. The 15% to 20% should be across the board from what I read and available on all 2009's (??). There is a low optioned 997.2 (non S) here locally and it's listed at $85K. Does that mean one could get that car for less than $70K with some good bargaining???

I thought I also saw a dealer with the 1.9% ending at the end of Sept. - anyone seen this? If I could re-lease my M5 in the next couple of months I could see myself in a 997.2 :-)

OK, you made it seem like you never drive it. I do understand about going to the grocery store in the car...I hate it when my wife and I are out to dinner and on the way home she decides to go grocery shopping and we end up with bags in the trunk, front foot well and rear seats...LOADED!
My 09 is not exactly a DD but I do drive it everyweek...I exactly can not pull in front of a customers store in a Porsche....believe it or not I get enough flack from a Mini Cooper!

50K was the high bid on the M3 and 45 was the low . It's an 08 nearing 17K miles . MSRP was 69 and I bought it at the launch before BMW also gave them away . I paid 67 and it's 1.5 years old .

There's a wonderful feeling that comes with not being deperate when shopping for a car. If the right car and the right price comes along --great. 20 percent off is a great price IF all the other factors fall into place and they didn't. If someone finds a car on a lot and is ready to accept a few options or colors that he may not desire .. he can buy it . But that's not me .

I spoke with three dealerships yesterday and not one of them called me today . I think a lot of people got very comfortable making money in car sales without having to work for it in the same way as they have to in todays economy. Now that they have to hussle they don't. Had any of them called me today with a car somewhat intriguing at near the prices which brought me to look --they would have sold it .

So yanno what . I'll wait and i still don't know what car is next. This deal just seemed good enough to peek at.

One last thing .. one salesperson spoke of lower production numbers and how hard it wilk be to get these discounts on 2010 models .
Yanno what ... then let LESS cars sit on the lots collecting dust.

I can't imagine how badly the 997S buyers must feel who paid 4 and 5 percent off when a few months later dealerships are giving them away .

So do thse dealerships think that they can pull 20 percent off now and get 5 percent off in 6 months?

They must be in dreamland.

It's a bit tougher to negotiate on a C2 being that it has less fluff with options plus is an entry level 911 . In short it's hot seller .

I did not ask about the financing . I pressed hard for a here and now cash deal with a trade in . They simply did not have the car in the color with the options that won my heart or a price good enough to part with the M3 --YET.

I do believe that July sales will be a very important month. I saw this once happen with Audi after a bad sales month. They practically gave the cars away in lease specials the next month and then claimed a record sales month. Of course people will show up to buy cars if dealerships are giving them away .

Porsche needs a "record month" to affirm some consumer confidence that these 100K cars are selling. This is the time to buy . it's just hard to find a car if one is very picky or not desperate (ie me) .

Most of the '08 M3's are in the 50-55 range, unless you're selling a sedan. Coupes are pretty rare in the used market, even though yours has some miles. Think of the math. That is a little more than 20% off the price you paid for the BMW. And it is 1.5 years old and has 17k miles. Damn one year old new P cars are 20% off brand new! I've got to say that there is no value in buying a new one. Your M3 has held it's value much better. What is amazing is that the M3 is still pretty expensive new, even though at the beginning of the year dealers still had '08's on the lots. I expect most of them are gone now. 3 year old 997 is nearly a full 40% off MSRP. Now that is probably some value. They seem to have strongly leveled off - as you have said - in the "zone" which seems to hit at $60k. An '09 or '08 seems destined to drop $20k in a year. Not the kind of depreciation I would want to look at.
Maybe I've missed something in the math

yrralis, not to rain on your thread but my wife broke it to me today that she wants to trade in her CLK 550 convertible for a Cayenne S...or GTS since she had a GTS as a loaner for a week this spring....ARRRRGH!

I just bought a Mini Cooper S, yep my 6'5" frame fits nicely and awesome gas mileage...we sold the BMW X3 and that was our SUV and we have the CLK. Wifey wants a SUV (nope we have no kids) or she wants a new Boxster S.

So here we go again....I wonder if I can get a better deal on a Cayenne than a BMW X5??? I do not fit too great in a little Boxster!
