The immediate response time of the DFI
It seems like most of the posts on the 09 car comment on PDK or the refresh styling . Most of the concerns have been about the new engine.
But what big difference seems to get overlooked ?
The immediate response.
Some may have noticed it in the 996tt vs PDK video on youtube . It's best described as am immediate response when pressing the pedal . Unlike the Turbo known for lag this engine is the exact opposite .
It even has more jump than the 997.1 . the M3 and any other car i have owned . It can actually feel like it leaps instantly --witrh no delay time at all --faster than an e mail sent to youself .
OK so it won't run a 997tt but it will get the intitial jump on just about anything .

I am not so sure.
My 3.8 DFI doesn't feel particularly responsive. I would actually put it behind my ol' E46 M3 engine. The engine is still relatively new and tight (2000 miles) and the temps where I live are hovering around 80 deg F. But so far i am far from impressed. I was actually thinking of having the dealer look at it and see what they think. I feel the torque is pretty soft until around 5000 rpm. I did some 5-60 rolling street starts and I am getting around 5.2 seconds
. I keep thinking that my M did it in 5.3, and that car was short 50 bhp compared to my 997 and was 200 lbs heavier. Maybe around 3000 miles things will change! At least I hope so!

Have you also notice how good is the engine sound inside the cabine at + 3500rpm, and how stiff is the chassi? I can´t compare with 997.1(never had one), but compared to 996, the 997.2 has a much rigid chassi.

Mine nails it much like in this video. Look at 10 seconds low it leaps and hangs on for awhile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5BVmaU-Vvo
I was also impressed with instant response from DFI engine, specialy with PDK + SP+ on. At 3000rpm with SP+ it almost reminds me the V10 M5 with 580Hp from a friend of mine, although the M was indeed faster, but you wouldn´t tell there was a 200hp difference, only at high revs (+5500rpm) big dif would show up. I will never forget that M car again, it´s a beast.

I love the response and agree 100 percent. as for the sound I am totally spoiled by my Tubi race in the Turbo .
I think i will be paying for some Dyno time. Gotta bring something to the dealership, or they will brush me off! Anyone know a Good Dyno shop in the NJ/Philly area????

With PDK in regular mode and a light foot the engine responds in a very leisurely fasion that belies the 385HP/310ft/lb torque. I think this is related more to the transmission programming response than to the DFI engine. In SC, and particularly in SC+ the engine/transmission response is instantaneous, and personally I find SC+ somewhat brutal to the mechanical components. In terms of a manual transmission I can't imagine why the engine would feel anything but extremely powerful and free revving.
