08 Turbo or 09 C4S Cab?
08 Turbo or 09 C4S Cab?
So my patience is fading & I'm real close to a jumpin on a great deal on the exact new 09 4S cab I want in Gt Silver (msrp 122) for around $96,500ish. But I've found an 08 Turbo in same color, 6 spd, private party asking $100k.
Only sacrifice here is non cab, which is real tempting to skip for a turbo.
Probably a stupid question, but any drawbacks having/dirving the Turbo?I havent talked to anyone wanting to go back from having a Turbo.
Opinions on the Turbo price & how much more maintenance will the Turbo need. Need to check insurance also.
Here's the specs on the 08:
Immaculate condition 6 speed 2008 Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo with sport chrono package. GT Silver metallic exterior with black leather interior. Front seat inlay with alcantara. Fully loaded including adaptive sport seats, heated front seats, 6 disc CD changer. Instrument dials Carrara white, rear center console painted exterior color. 9,500 miles, vehicle warranty, lojack, clear armor and tinted windows. With options MSRP $140k. Asking $100k OBO
My thoughts are this:
Buy the Turbo & run it till the 09 Preowneds hit the market, 12-24 months & if I HAVE to have a cab, pick up an 09er for a lot less then. Or maybe a Turbo cab
Also, will any soCal dealers CPO a private party car if I pay the 2-3K cost?
Just when I though I knew what I wanted. Damn 911's.

Depends if you can live without the cab. But be forewarned, once you get bit by the turbo, you ain't never goin' back. The car you're describing sounds really mint. Go for a test drive (or ride) and then after you buy it (which you WILL do after the drive/ride), post up some pics.
Congrats in advance!!!
Oh yeah, if it's private, and you really want it, and assuming it checks out and you've PPI'd it etc, I'd do the deal, and then get the VENDOR to get the Porsche extended warranty on it BEFORE you actually transfer ownership, I'm pretty sure the warranty is transferrable........

I previously had a 997.1 C2S and now have a '09 Turbo Cab. IMHO, there is a big difference between the driving characteristics of the two cars. No difference in maintenance though. My suggestion would be to drive both, preferably back to back. Given that the Turbo you are looking at is a private party, just take one for a spin at your dealer. I think you'll have your answer as to what works best for you. Be forewarned, it is indeed a slippery slope, now that I have a Turbo it would be hard for me to go back!
I could live without a cab in a second . The Turbo is a monster but be prepared to mod it . As for reliability the Gt1 engine is bullet proof . Look at all the mods donr to both 997tt and 996tt with no major issues.
Take a look at this. Tip turbo vs 997s both stock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_kfa...rom=PL&index=6

You're talking about two entirely different automobile experiences. I drove a turbo for many years and frankly appreciate the quicker throttle response and sound (PSE) on my cabriolet. There is plenty of power in any 997 for use in the USA. Most turbo owners will never be satisfied with the hp output of any car, and all they can afford is a 997 turbo. Don't necessarily get caught up in the mystique of having 'a turbo.' Today, they are extremely common, so having one is nothing special. Most of today's Porsche drivers can't even drive the turbo properly to utilize the power it has. If you're a tad thick in the middle, with a balding head, choose a turbo. If you want a sports car, buy a 997. WHERE you live affects the utility of a cabriolet. I was a Porsche 911 coupe guy for many decades, until I moved back to Santa Barbara. With the near-ideal climate, I can actually USE a convertible. Those in Texas or Florida with convertibles have a very limited convertible season. Most of the summers are just too hot for one. Of course, the ultimate is having the hardtop for your cabriolet,--and you can enjoy it as a coupe in the winter or as a cab during the other seasons.
Im in SoCal, so a weekend car like a cab will get used often. 45 miinutes from the coast. Plus , I have great canyon roads right outside my door.
The more I think about it, I'm too hooked on the 09 goodies & technology & now find myself about to flip a coin on manual or pdk.
PS. I have all my hair & am not quite a tad thick in the middle. 6-4/240-dingding.
