PSE vs. Turbo Exhaust
It's definitely not just you...I have owned a 997.1 with PSE and now a Turbo. The PSE for the normally aspirated engine sounds infinitely better than a stock Turbo exhaust. As a result, a significant of Turbo owners install after-market exhausts (Cargraphic, Tubi, AWE, etc.) to get the exhaust sound that should have come from the factory in the first place.
i have a boxster SE with PSE; it definitely sounded better than "stock" turbo exhaust
modded my tt with Tubis; now about equal. naturally aspirated engines just sound more exotic than "boosted" ones, ie: ferraris, lambos, Carrera GT, etc. though i was @ a vintage event and a 930 Turbo "factory slantnose" with fabspeed just sounded like it was just released from "hell"!
one of the best note i have heard, comparable to a Murcielago!

Definitely PSE!! The stock Turbo sound (at least on the 997TT) is way too mild (I guess that is the way the bank presidents and corporate execs - non-enthusiasts - want them!). Too bad!!
IMO, i think the PSE is perfect, not extremely loud, just right

North van - It's simple physics where the sound wave is homogenized by the turbo's impellar . Yet the Tubi race exhaust just rips the sound . If you care to hear it shoot me a PM with your e mail and I'll dig up a sound clip for you of mine .
Yeah, almost all of the current street lineup is quiet as stock, other than with PSE. Too bad that $100+k only gets you 75% of the way there. You still have to spend the last 25% to mod it to make it just right.
Porsche does a good job of offering plenty of customization options that are OEM, though most of us still go aftermarket.
Longterm, OEM's are going to have to develop deeper mod depts so as to capture that revenue in-house. Witness Scion and Mini. Not much need to go outside of OEM to mod those cars.
Key differentiator: Pcar pricing on OEM mods is kind of insulting.

haha yeah, they assume if you have the money to finance the car, that you have the money to mod it as well with OEM parts
