Keep 997.1 C4S or upgrade to 997.1 GT3 / 997.2 GT3
I currently have a 2007 C4S and am considering upgrading to a GT3
I have herad there was not much of a difference between the 2010 and the 2007 GT3.
If a 2010 GT3 is $120Kish and I can get a used 2007 GT3 for $90Kish (assuming it checks out) what was would you go?
Trading in my C4S will cost me about $30K to upgrade to the 997.1 GT3, is it worth the difference?
I am planning on doning some track and mostly street, 6-10K miles per year.
Is the RMS issue a big deal on the 2007 GT3?
I have asked a coupel people's opinions and they seem to say 2007 GT3

All I know is a lot of people return their GT3's because they are not the best DD on the streets. I've been told that after 45 minutes in a GT3 your body knows it. If you track a lot then they are definitely worth it IMO. That is why I went C2S with Aero so I could get the GT3 look but all the comforts of the C2S. I don't intend on tracking it much if at all. If you do decide to go GT3, there are a lot of great deals on used ones right now.

if mostly street driving is your thing, the C2/4 S is has more refined manners. the gt3 clutch is pretty heavy too.
for the track, gt3 all the way
Personally I would get the 07 GT3 as it will still have a warranty and you can get a heck of a good deal on one right now.
As far as comfort and DD - besides the extra care you have to take with the low front splitter - as someone who took one out and drove it all day - it was just as comfortable as my Carrera and I swear it handled bumpy roads even more comfortably than my 07 Carrera.
Once you drive one you will know what I mean.
Either way you can't go wrong, but I would let someone else take the depreciation hit right now and get the used one.

I own a 6 GT3 and I really love my car. I do autox and a bunch of track days a year along with a little bit of street driving. For me, I get so much enjoyment from driving my car on the track (and autox skidpad) that driving it on the street is boring and many times, downright frustrating because I can't drive the car the way it really begs to be driven. I can break every speed limit in the country in 2nd gear (over 80mph) and this car loves revving up to the redline.
My solution to frustration is to do more track days, so I'm doing 5 this month.

The GT3 is really broadening its appeal and talent. It seems like porsche made the 997.2 Carrera more comfortable, while the GT3's drivability is covering a wider range - from everyday street compliancy to all out track. My next Porsche will certainly be a 997.2 GT3.
Allan, two days in a row, are you being converted over to 6speed? There are a few locals on this forum. Great group of people here.
How many of those 5 days are at the go cart track....3?
I am jelous as I am only doing 3.
I know Allan very well and he drive. His 6GT3 so smoothly it looks easy, but the 7GT3's have more helpers then the 6. So be cautious if he starts convincing you that a 6GT3 is the way to go, they car be very difficult to handle.

With the way the pricing is for both of them I have to say the 997.1 version makes more sense to me still...
Some good points about track versus street driving. Some other perspectives to help you:
Forget about driving a GT3 in rain - cup tires not the best, when compared to pilot sport tires, especially with a 4S. I love my car, rain or shine.
A good buddy of mine has an '07 GT3, he is concerned about taking his car out in the rain, especially on the track and without stability control. The .2 has PSM which is a good feature to have if you're a novice on the track.
On the street - his car has a hard ride, the same as mine with PASM on, but much harder when he puts his car into sport mode.
So overall, if you're planning to do MUCH more track time NOW, get the GT3 with PSM. Otherwise, I would wait until the Gt3 offers PDK and other items as options to consider an upgrade.

I would get a new Gt3 . In fact I nearly did . The ONLY thing that prevented it was that the pricing on the 997S PDK car in July sealed my choice .
Unlike the regular 997 and 997S the Gt3 is a track car primarily and that opens the door to a different type of inspection. It's one thing if you know the owner or the car's history and quite another if the beauty is all cleaned up sitting on an independent dealership lot.
This is a rare car and a special car . I'd buy it new.
I also would not drive it every day. I'd want to preserve it.
Plus a peson can't park this type of car everywhere . Fingerprints all over it , and it's stands out so much that it can also attract a lot of attention . .. attention is not always a good thing.
