Watkins Glen

Doing a DE event at the end of August at Watkins Glen with my fellow NER region PCA drivers and wondered if anyone had any information or could provide links to places to review driving tips at the glen.

Obviously I will be going out with an instructor as well but a little research does not hurt.

Thanks

Since nobody else has anything else to say, I'd say go to www.youtube.com and search "911 watkins glen" and you'll get plenty of in-car videos of guys going around the track.

If you want to have even more fun, search "911 spin watkins glen"

Also, there the Glen sells a DVD called the "Speed Secrets at the Glen."

Speaking of which, what did this 911 do wrong at T9 at the Glen?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hJExWzji1M He was pretty much on the patch. To my eye, it looks like he turned early, but it doesn't seem that that should have caused the spin.

It sounded to me that he either took his foot off the gas or tried to change gear in the middle of the corner and as soon as the revs went down the back end came around - err I think

Watkins Glen is a very unforgiving track. "Listen" to your instructor when he says do not lift in the esses and T10. Speed Secrets is a very good DVD, although I take issue with some of their line techniques. There are some videos on Vimeo as well. Here's mine.

Drive well. Be safe.

Fantastic track......drove it for years! Start front straight very first turn is a hard right hander....hard break at 200 ft down shift to 3rd turn in . Accelerate out shift to 4th. Up through the esses and DONT lift. Drift to edge and run the back straight ( possibly fifth depending on your car and speed u want to carry )to the bus stop. Hard break @ 200 down to 4th modulate through the bus stop to set up the sweeping rigth hand (entering @ about 80-85) Push out and down to the enter the boot!(about 100-105) HARD HARD break down shift to 3rd for the sharp left hander. Drift out to 4th , pull back in tight for the sharp right hand turn in the toe that is up hill. Break , down shift to 3rd and push it out to run the back sole....into 4th. Break hard @ 200 down shift to 3rd for a hard right hander. Push out and then back for the off camber drift from the boot to the short track. The armco might intimidate u on this drift, but remember its ONLY a Porsche Down that straight into 4th and prepare for a FLAT OUT (in 4th) turn to the left . By this point u are approaching the last turn before the front straight and u just $hit yourself. Hard break and down to third for a right hand turn that you will run out to the edge to get the most speed on the front straight.

Other then that , its a piece of cake! Best track I have ever been on
