Is any clutch noise allowed at starting?
Hi,
My car`s clutch developed a habit to produce a specific grabbing noise at moment of pedal release when engine is hot, and it is especially well pronounced when I have to start moving uphill, like entering my garage.
There are no sounds whatsoever on any other gear change other than on 1st, there is no slippage, never had clutch burning smell. Clutch was completely silent before but now it produces this bit of a squeak or low whistle when I start on 1st gear, like something hard rubs of something. Is it a normal sign of regular wear and tear or is it sign of final depletion of plate surface and requires an immediate replacement? Generally, what I am trying to figure out is what sort of sound to expect when plate or disc is completely worn out.
Car drives and accelerates just fine, exactly as before, I have this new sound only when I start from dead stop on 1st gear, at moment of clutch engagement.

If clutch does not slip, vibrate and does anything else you would notice - that means it is quite OK and flywheel too.
Noise at depression and clutch engagement he says most likely due to wear on a bearing or fork that moves that bearing. But most likely - bearing. He says, it will make sense to replace it if sound will start changing to worse drastically. On my car it appears only when car is fully hot and when i`m driving, like i was on 2nd gear then stopped and engage 1st again. If I stop for a long enough time - like on red light for minute or 2 - I start with no noise or with minimal noise.
So verdict is - if it will start screaming really bad - take off clutch, buy replacement kit for disk/plate plus bearing most likely.
