Garbage. The V10 R8 is pushing $200K. I wouldn't call that a "poor man's anything".

I know they are very close in performance. But I want rear seats and less exotic look as my DD, so a 997 works perfectly for my use.

You're absolutely welcome. It all depends on what you want; like you said the 911 has the rear seats, and attracts less attention... I completely get you, but would love to own an R8

If I actually had more money I would have probably bought a GT3 or an R8

i've seen a couple floating around my home town. i used to love the looks of them but the more i see them the less stunning it is to me. however, the more i look at my 997 the more i like it. i think it's because the r8 looks a bit too edgy whereas our 997's looks timeless. never had a chance to drive the r8 though. i bet i would fall in love with it again if i did.

the r8 is great !! one shows up at euro sunday in the sacto area... it belongs to a local dearlership i believe it's neillo. would make a great 2nd car or replace my wifes cayenne, but no room for golf clubs, or groceries.

I love the look of the R8's, and I find that they look better every time I see one. I've never checked them out in detail. Do they not have any storage in front? If so, is the front "trunk" even smaller than our Carreras?

Yup, that is a big problem as I've heard... Except for the rear seats, something a Supercar should not have in my opinion anyways

Yes there is storage in the front. It is smaller than in the 911. Apparently you can get a set of golf clubs in behind the seats but we didn't look. The clear rear deck is quite cool - especially for those of you that like to spend time detailing.
The suspension seemed to be a little softer than my car, with the sport setting comparable to the stock setting on the 997.1S.

I like the look of the R8. There is a black one sitting on the dealers showroom and I had a peek inside. DSG/with proper paddles rather than the stupid buttons on Porsches (The Turbo has fixed that it seems).

At the track there is this gentleman who had an R8 and a GT3. He described the R8 as very forgiving and easy to drive. The GT3 could bite you at anytime. He sold the R8.

I wouldn't compare the R8 to the GT3. Completely different cars. The GT3 is track related, while the R8 is purely a street car.

I agree with those who cannot fathom why anyone would call the R8 a poor mans Ferrari. I could imagine poseurs seeing it that way. But drivers recognize that these are completely different cars appealing to different customer bases.

I think the R8 looks great. I much prefer it to the looks of a Nissan GTR.

Doesn't change how I perceive my 997.2 in anyway. And if I was spending more money right now on a new car I would pick up the GT3. That wouldnt make me hate or dislike the Audi R8 in any way at all. Being a gear head is brand independent even though I may prefer a specific brand in the first place.

Not a dual clutch, it's still a sequential manual.
