music and driving....

My favorite tunes come on the radio once in a blue moon and lucky for that as my driving style seems to change a bit when this happens.... my built in "drive safe mode" would be none existant if I could roll to any tunes I opted for at any moment.... would be bad for my health.

That said this looks like a great option from the Mo and Den units... thanks for starting the thread

When you turn the radio to 0 (which is considered AUX, it sort of flips the switch on the splitter and it is only then using the signal from the iPod adapter. That is when you will hear the static as no music is playing at the point. But, when you hit play on the iPod/iPhone, it works kind of like you just found the strongest possible FM radio signal possible and the static goes away and you hear whatever your iPhone/iPod is playing. Also, because it allows for any other 3.5mm headphone jack type of connection, you could technical use this for ANY device that uses a standard headphone jack with the use of a male to male cable of this sort.

Yes, it does charge as it plug into one of the 12v accessory connectors in the center console, however with newer model devices that use USB charger, this unfortunately needs an adapter to enable charging correctly, unless Porsche comes out with a new cable at some point, which I highly doubt they will.

Ultimately, I have heard great things about the Denison device, but it requires, IMO a longer amount of time and resources to install, costs more and the added sound benefit and PCM on-screen control was the I'll go this route instead decision. I am not disappointed with my decision. It absolutely would be nice to have on-screen display of songs and control, but with a simple install of my Pro Clip Mount, my iPhone sits right next to the PCM, so I can have navigation running (if desired) and my music playing, easy access to both and it sounds good enough for me
Just FYI, Griffin makes a little converter that plugs into the newer Ipods between the Ipod and the cable which allows you to charge the new devices off of an older system. I use it on several of my older Ipod integration units at home and in my old M3.

Griffin does? I thought only Scosche made it? Anyway, yes, exactly what I was saying about the converter needed. I will look into the Griffin one.

Hey skizot, that's good to know. If it is not over the air, then that is a huge step better, although limited to S/N and freq. range of the FM band. The only thing that occurs to me is that if it plugs into the PCM, then it is a $300 plus installation on top of the $350 price. Seems like the Dension can be simply installed by removing a panel, following the instructions, and placing it in the trunk.
Was the install difficult/expensive?

The install requires removing the center console as it integrates nicely as a factory part into the center console area, which is ultimately why I wanted this over a third party device. Yes, I had to pay an hour of labor at the local dealership after install so they could set whatever they needed to with the PCM. There are tons of DIY out there for this removal and install of other items that show how to take the car apart. For me, it was worth it, again only because I really wanted a factory piece for the iPhone at the time I did this. Looking back, If I could do it over again, I probably would go with the Denison, rather then this adapter, only because when I first bought the car, I really did not have much plans to do other things to it and the mod bug has certainly bit me, so with wanting to know integrate some other nice in car electronics to the car, the Denison unit would make more sense, nevertheless, I do not regret the install as it does what it is intended for and for me, I feel it sounds and works as expected.

Thanks for the feedback. So, you had to have the dealer change the PCM to make it work after the install? Did you have them remove the center console or did you do it yourself?
I was looking at the nav area in the trunk and it looks pretty accessable. Question of how one would route a cable from there into the car or just leave the Ipod jack in the trunk, which seems a PIA. I guess if you can access the playlists from the PCM, it doesn't matter that much. If I can DIY the Dension with no trip to the dealer, then that would probably be the cost effective way for me to go.
I do like the finish of the OEM piece though. Does Rennlist have the DIY?

Yeah, I found it on their website, I purchased one to try it out as I hated the other adapter, too big and clunky.

As for the Denison, I am not sure if it requires any sort of dealer interaction or not. I have not installed nor read about the install (although there are DIY) out there. I found the DIY from here, teamspeed, rennlist and cayman club.
