New owner: Clear bra and Mobridge questions

Just picked up an 06 C4S. Love it!

2 things I want to add to the car (3 Questions):

1. 3M clear bra. Got two quotes. $2500 from the A-piller forward and $1700 from the A-Pillar forward and $1200 for full hood, nose and front fenders to 6" past the peak of the head lamps. Is this the going rate for materials and labor? How much car should I cover?

2. Mobridge looks like the Blue Tooth piece and iPod. None of the Porsche FM modulator for the iPod please..

Anyone in the Detroit area install these? There are no Mobridge dealers.

3. Also, how do I tell what software version I have? I HAVE THE NAV AND PCM in my car... and must I have the dealer 'turn off' my CD Changer?

Thanks!!!

Jeff

For comparison, check out a local vendor who does this type of work and quotes his prices online = phantomshield.net

He uses the better Llumar film, that leaves no orange peel look. I should give you a good idea for comparison.

Wow! Far cheaper in Fla... I imagine there is a larger market down there. Very few Porsches around here.

DO most folks do the whole hood?

Also, I noticed a 3M logo on a PhantomShield page. Does 3M make this material, too?

Thanks.

Looks like those prices are just for the material though. Holy cow that stuff is expensive. Hood and fenders probably wouldn't be that hard to do though. The bumper is probably a *****.

westloop is infamous around these parts
I'd start by calling the local P-car dealers and see who they use. Quotes from those guys could be reasonable or on the high side - but you know they probably do quality work. As far as Mobridge, I don't know much about it, but if its anything like the dension, your local p-car dealers will know who installs the stuff. Check out the regional boards as well. I am sure there are other folks from the Detroit area that can help get you sorted.

Congrats on the new car!

The MoBridge people are the folks to ask for installers. They had a number of recommendations in my area. And I give a thumbs up for the unit. It has worked out very well for me.
If you're looking for the version number and how to shut off the cd changer for the MoBridge, I suspect the installer can do all that. BTW, mine was installed at a Porsche dealer in my area. But not my local one who didn't do those installs (or at least were not on their list).

Nope, those are his installed prices. They also carry 3M if a customer requests it, but the Llumar film is far superior in every way IMO.

I paid $625 for my clear bra including install. It covers the whole bumper, fog lights, headlights, and half the hood and front fenders.

For paint protection film, you should look into the local region to make a comparison. This would be the best apples to apples comparison. Good luck.

Previous owner did it to my car - same setup as yours and I find it very convenient and nice to have - do not have to worry now about all those little gravels anymore. After 5 years in MA I had to get new hood and bumper on my lexus to remedy all those scuffs and bumps. Hopefully this clear cover will do a good job.

I wonder why do they do only half of the hood, that plastic is not so expensive, it would make more sense to cover entire hood with it but they seem only to do the front part of it. Strange.

Ah, finally some clarity as to cost. That's installed, so now a front covering is not that crazy. I'll need to check window tint places in my area. Thanks!

From my understanding, the film stock is very expensive, and most companies use a pre-cut kit. These pre cut kits only cover the front and half the hood. I believe the only way to have the whole hood and fenders covered is to have it done by a custom shop (like Premier) that will use large rolls of film and custom cut the film around every body panel gap. This is better coverage obviously and looks better too as there is no seems, but is very labor intensive and therefore much more expensive.

I visited a dealer today that installed Llumar, Ventureshield and 3M. I saw the rolls of each there. Pretty much said 3M had advantages in its thickness. The others are thinner and not easy to buff out on a hit or smudge. He agreed a bit more 'orange peal' with the 3M. He had his CAD machine there and had a pretty slick outfit. He showed me both on a demo car he had there. At first look, they looked identical and only up close did the Llumar look a bit better at the seam. HE seemed to know a lot about the manufacturers and explained 3M had all the patents. This was why others like Llumar and Ventureshield were thinner as 3M had a thickness patent. All and all I was satisfied by his work quality and knowledge. He said it is all in the application and less in the material. So, he'll do the car... in 3M.

Now to find someone to install a Mobridge.

Thanks!

I have ventureshield on my car and it was a seamless install. You can not see it! I have the front bumper, mirrors and 1/2 hood. I think it was around 700.00. i was told the ventureshield is guaranteed for the life of the car. Good luck with your decision!
