PCM3 questions
PCM3 questions
On my new 2009 Turbo, I have noticed that the Aux in volume on the PCM3 is much lower that the tuner volume or the ipod volume. This happens no matter what device I plug into the Aux. Is this standard (feature) or is it a problem that only I am having. Also, is there a way on the PCM3 to connect and auto mute via a cable with my built in Escort 9500ci radar dector. I know that was possible on PCM2.1

How do you find the PCM3? I have an 05s with the PCM and find it almost useless and out dated. Hard to find POIs and such. Is the new system better? I am looking to move to an 09/10 and not sure if I should consider PCM again.

My guess is that the various audio sources have pre-amp or amp-bias settings in the PCM3 software that may be tweekable by the dealer, or may be fixed in the PCM software version. I don't recall a setting for them.
For the AUX input, since this is a signal that can come from the headphone output of another device, turning up the output volume for the thing that feeds the aux input may help. Or is it the case that the AUX input is being normalized down to a level (regardless of the source devices output volume) that is just lower than the rest?
I know at one point, someone mentioned that if you have 2 things plugged in at the same time - say an ipod and an aux device, the two signals are combined in a non-sophisticated way such that they are both more quite. Try having ONLY the AUX source plugged in (no ipod) and see if it changes the volume.
For getting a PCM3 (addressing another poster) you may be able to upgrade the unit itself, but I would think the more cost effective solution is to upgrade to a car that has the PCM3 built into it unless money is no object.
