New to the Porsche world. Don't own one yet.

Curious, is there an option on these cars to play MP3's through the stereo other than via optical means? I see that the 2009's and above have a USB power in the center console to play music.

Is there such an option on previous 997's?

I am looking at 07-08's.

Porsche sells an Auxiliary audio kit that uses FM modulation. Also, the head unit single cd will play MP3 CDs (I think that update came in 06?).

For 997.1 best bet for MP3s is mobridge or similar unit that impersonates cd changer and it gets connected over optical bus.

PCM 2.1 does not seem to have AUX inputs. You may try to hack into ASK amp directly to feed analog audio input into it simultaneously suppressing PCM outputs by giving signal to one of 'telephone mute' or 'switching output' inputs but it would be non-trivial.

 

What a hassle. I wish you could just push an SD card or two into the dash like you can on Audi's.
