Head Is 'bout to Explode!

Hi gang, newbie here. Owned a 2001 911 Coupe several years ago; sold that and got into a BMW 335ic. I would like to go back to a p-car and in the process of looking at new '09 991 4S or used 07/08 cert. There is so much info on this forum and I have learned alot. Any advice right now would be helpful on which way should I go. Thanks.

Two schools of thought:
1. The discounts on the 09's are still very strong. Less than a month or two back, and the selection is a bit 'picked over'. But the 09's have DFI and PDK (if that floats your boat) both or either of which are outstanding upgrades.
2. The pre-owned cars are still excellent deals, depressed beyond any historic precedent. Selections are also getting a bit less, but there are still many many great cars out there.
If the financials are at all a concern (or a significant concern - financials are always some concern), going with a pre-owned model is a no-brainer. You give up very little (unless you need an auto - in which you HAVE to get an '09 PDK).
If you want the best of the best, an 09 is simply a better car. Aside from PDK, the DFI produces significantly more power at all ranges (and is more efficient) and the front suspension is improved.
For me, I'd happily purchase someone else's depreciated asset and go with an 07 model. Third year of the 997 so whatever had to be debugged likely is, and still significant warranty remaining. Yet old enough to get it at a great price.

Be sure to call around to dealers as there seems to be a lot of games with inventory these days, meaning not everything is viewable online.

I believe dealers were taken by surprise by the crisis early 08 and there are plenty on unsold brand new 997.1 out there, which might be a better deal than pre-owned. Unless you need PDK there is no issue going 997.1 rather than 997.2 Direct injection adds to power all right but most of it comes in high rev. Besides the look of the first 997 is closer to pure 911 spirit.

If you're looking at a 09 997.2 - there are incentives on financing and leasing that are being promoted by dealers. There is also a cash purchase incentive to dealers, 10K on 2wd and 12K on 4wd - they of course want a part of that for themselves but some amazing deals can be had with effort. These all run to end of September.

08 C2S = 75K (Demo Launch car) - 85K ( Discounted from 100+ )
07 C2S (low mi CPO ) = 55K -62K

Both the 07 and 09 will depeciate but given the huge discount of the 09 .. it's got a heck of a running start.

Comparing highs - 23K gets 2 years newer , 30 more Hp, PDK. , Full warranty plus the peace of mind that no other person ever drove it if new .If you drive the two cars , factor in the price gap and what's offered .. dollar for dollar -- the new one wins . It got my vote.

THANKS GUYS! I'm finding the pickings thin for what I would want in an '09 4 or 4S; Blk/Blk with few options. The search continues!

I got an '06 with X51 so, for me, there is absolutely nothing to gain in power and torque with the DFI engine in the '09. What I do see as the main advantage is that it doesn't have an intermediate shaft anymore and that eliminates the potentially catastrophic problems the previous engine (mine) could have. Also, I heard they fixed the RMS leak problem with this engine. Of course, being a new design, who knows what reliability issues may arise with the 9A1 engine.
