I am reading through technical requirements for DE events and see this:

"Fire Extinguisher
NER requires a 2.5-lb. charge (minimum) class BC or ABC fire extinguisher at Driver Education events. Extinguishers with metal nozzles preferred. They must be held by a metal bracket (no plastic straps or brackets, no sheet metal or self tapping screws allowed); must be secured by at least two bolts and nuts to a metal mounting point (chassis, seat rail, roll cage, etc.); and must be reachable from the driver's seat.

N.B. A one-time exemption from the fire extinguisher requirement is allowed for students participating in their first DE event. The student must advise the pre-event tech inspector of his/her first-timer status. The exemption will be noted on the participant's tech form, which will be accepted by the event-day tech inspector. Any questions should be directed to our Scrutineer."

That made me puzzled for a sec - where I can I possibly put it on my 997.1 with metal bracket to metal mounting point and be reachable from driver`s seat? I have regular home extinguisher, pretty small, but it does not seem to fit under seat at all. Are there any tricks on how to mount it? Where does it usually go?

It also says it does not fit 'bucket shell seats'. What the heck are those? I have regular standard option 'Heated front seats' without motorized back-forth movements, are those noted as 'sport' or 'comfort' seats? My gosh, so much mess on such a simple subject...

 

Think they're referring to GT3-type seats. Sport buckets are in the Porsche configurator.

Can you tell me - is this mount easily removable so it could be taken off after event without having to unscrew half of the seat away?

that is 3 times cheaper but it is not clear if it is a permanent mount or removable one.

Does anybody know of any cheaper options for those removable mounts or is that $300 mount the best and only one to use?

 

Two things I was informed of regarding the Porsche extinguisher:

1) It is apparently not up to standards due to the fact that it cannot be removed and implemented quickly enough.

2) It cannot be mounted to a GT2 / GT3 sport seat. You need to use an aftermarket mount.

 

Did you find one for your car? I understand auto-x events also require it to be in the car, right?

 

As far as I understand, there is no need for a PCA event to have a fire extinguisher in the car. Perhaps for other clubs, I'm not sure. In any case, mine did not. I am getting one installed none the less. I ordered a Brey Krause mount for my seats, since the Porsche one wouldn't work anyways.

 

Most PCA clubs in my area do not require a fire ext in the lower run groups. In fact I have seen only one club (metro) require a FE in all runs groups.

I would check out the websites of the groups you plan to run in to get the specifics.

I would recommend their extinguishers. I notice their site doesn't show a 997 bracket, but I believe they sell them at the shop. Give 'em a call. Good guys.

What I am trying to understand is if that Brey Krause mount is bolted in permanently or removable. do you keep it there permanently in front of your seat? Does it get in the way when you get in/out of the car?

Could you please show picture of this mount itself without extinguisher on it?
