Best Tires for a 997?
I think a whole set is less than replacing just the rears with the PS2.
My C4S came with PS2's and the car drives great in all conditions particularly on wet roads. While they are quiet on asphalt they are quite noisy on concrete roads. Only have 8K miles so can't say how long they'll last. At present time tread looks good but no track days.
Friend of mine picked up a new 997.2 S a few months back and his car came with Conti's. He was not a very happy camper about this as he was hoping to get the PS2's.
Got a full set for $709 delivered...that's before the $50 mail in rebate from Hankook. Like I said before, even if they are only 85-90% as good as the PS2's, I'll take that.
I just got my 997.2 S this month and it came with P ZERO. I find it a VERY noisy tire , on concrete roads it almost become unberable due to so much noise. Will go Bridgstone or Michelin as soon as they wear out.
I've been 100% satisfied with my PS2's. Excellent grip, quiet, reasonably predictive release. Can't imagine changing. They're pricey, but so is the car. And they're the only thing connecting it to the ground.
On the other side of the spectrum, I've had Pirelli's in the past (including the original tires on the car - significantly used when I bought it). I will never own a pair again.

Not sure these are the same, but the Ford GT was shipped with Goodyear F1 Supercar tires. Simply terrible (hard, useless under 45 degrees, no stick, doesn't talk to the driver) but until recently there haven't been any options due to the wheel/tire size requirements and, um, speed rating. Now everyone is switching to Bridgestone unless they are also changing wheels
The F1 Supercar tires are completely different from the GSD3's. The F1 GSD3's are absolutely awesome, but the posters here I think have been running them on other cars - they are not available in 997 rear sizes. You can get any tire in the 235/35 size, but the rears are more difficult. I would run the Goodyears in a heartbeat if they were available.
I'm now running the RE050's in Porsche spec. They are pretty quiet and stick nicely. No idea of mileage, haven't had them long enough.
If you search TireRack, the Bridgestone 960 PP's come up as an "all season" option in the 997 size. They may be the right size and they may work well in light snow, but they completely change the handling of the car. I would not recommend them at all unless you want to run them in the snow. At 40 mph they howl like beasts.

Good thing you got the hardtop! I removed the P Zero's and tried MPS2's couldn't wait to enjoy the car more.
