Best Tires for a 997?
When I originally bought my 997.1 in 2008 (16K miles) it came with a new set of Pirrelli Rosso - P Zeroes. From everything that I read- these are not the best tires for this car- a little noisy and not as sticky as others- THAT being said what has been your experience?
It seems like the Michelin Pilot Sport 2's are the Gold standard- has anyone ever tried Bridgestone Pole Sitter's their 997?

I have owned a set of Pirelli tires in the past and they were so noisy, I would never go back. The best all season tire I have owned on my non-Porsche was believe it or not, the Falken 452. Low road noise, great tread wear (I still have a set on my DD that is going on 3 years and they still have lots of tread left).
As for the Porsche, when I upgraded the wheels, I did go back to the PS2. Proven reliability and performance. Some do not like them because of the price, others will say they do not grip well. In my experience, the price was high, but the performance met my expectations.
Toyo and Continental also make some decent tires at lower prices, but I am happy with my PS2.

I'm a road driver. My experience is Bridgestone Potenzas get too soft on hot roads, after 30minutes they become quite soft. The PS2's are better against heat. They seem to pit more from road debris. I have alot of small missing chunks of tyre. I am going to try R888 next, they appear more track orientated.

I couldn't stand my P Zero's, horrible tires IMO, took them off with 70% tread left.
I have PS2's which are much better in all conditions. I have also had a set of Yokohama Advan Sports and I thought they were excellent, but haven't tried them on the Porsche yet.

you also might want to look at the test results at TireRack and see some of their data. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine also does some nice tests of tires. I think it is also important to point out that there are new generations of most of these tires out now. Certainly the new P-Zero has nothing to do with the old. The new RE-050 tires seem to be very, very nice and certainly the equal of the PS2, which are also great. The have been tested wet and dry and are well rounded choices. If your desires lean towards super grip, you are in luck! Because of Solo Autocrossing, there are quite a few gumballs out there that have treadwear above 180, and are very streetable. They designed a solo class for just such a tire, and the tire companies designed tires just for that competition. Examples= Dunlop Direzza Z1 star spec, Bridgestone RE-11, New Advans AD08, ETC....
They are particularly nice for street, because they have grip without warming up. For track, they are not ideal......

I would assume probably if you wear `em out completely - may be then it will have issues with water but after barely 1K miles on em I cannot complain at all. Wonderful tires.
I'm thinking of trying the Bridgestone RE-11 when my current P-Zero tires are due for replacement. I had PS2s on my prior 997 and I have to say I was a little disappointed overall. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I did feel they lacked grip and tended to break loose to soon.
My '09 C2 cab came with 18" Michelin Pilot Sport's.
