No surprise here...1.9% made a difference

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Porsche Automobil Holding said Tuesday that U.S. August sales rose 9% to 1,526 vehicles from a year ago. Sales of Porsche's 911 model jumped 92% to 673 vehicles from 351 last year, and Cayenne sales declined 34% to 509 vehicles.

God bless those courageous souls who buy new Porsches!

I could not make myself to part with that much of my cash at once... I still have that simple computation in my head - $40-45K for used one on CPO, after CPO it is $20K for new engine. =$60-70K total. With veery good probability to remain on $45K expense mark if engine will last.

New 911 with options I like (i was not aware of 20% discount) = $90K plus tax. 4 years of warranty then hypothetically same probability to shell out on new engine. Well, new bells and whistles are nice of course, but to loose $20K on depreciation alone from $100K purchase annually - it`s for very rich people.

That's the beauty of 1.9%, you can part with the cash over 5 years instead of all at once. I certainly wouldn't have bought new without it as I'm not rich either.

July and August Porsche practically gave thse cars away . I still believe that it's the time to buy a new porsche .

Switching gears --- I have been searching the used market with a few forum members in the range of 45 -60K and the ideal cars are getting harder to find --EVERYWHERE (northeast. california. florida) . This was once a price segment filled with great cars and most who bought them are not selling them . I can pull up 75 cars in a 100 mi radius and find very few I like .. and none which compare to what's available in new cars --given the recent price comparison .

It's my opinion that used shoppers may have to wait .
New car shoppers need to buy.

rkuo is infamous around these parts
Yeah, I think the depressed prices recently meant that when the economy ticked back up, a lot of people got up the confidence/cash to vacuum up the better deals out of the used market. I think all of the cars I had my eye on have been snapped up.

Well, it was plenty of prognoses for severe market drop in September-October, will see what will happen. Recession is not nearly over, hiring didn`t restart yet by large, company I work for just had 20% reduction based on 2nd quarter results and 3rd quarter is not going to be much better than second. Nothing is over yet.

Interesting, how sales of Boxsters, Caymans, and 911's in particular are up nicely, but Cayennes are down big time. I guess it's cuz a lot of folks who get Cayennes have less "discretionary income" especially in these times, vs the more I-am-getting-this-cuz-I-really-want-it-not-because-I-need-it sports car folks.

Cayennes were the flippers/realtors car of choice. Porsche sold thousands, nearly 50,000 in the US alone during the last 4 years. Lots of used Cayennes to be had cheap now.

The current discounts would have made a difference (for cash purchases) as well, but as I wanted a custom build to spec... that would never work.
