Turbo wheels on the S
Turbo wheels on the S
I know there are some threads in the archives on asking if you can run turbo wheels on the narrow body 997, but I wasn't that satifiied with the pictures in those threads, so I thought I would just start my own. These are stock 997 TT take offs, with 305 Bridgestone RE050A rear tires. While the front tires are still the 235/35's, I think the 8.5" rear rims and the more aggressive offset make a big difference in reducing understeer. The fronts are nicely out to the fenders now.
For the rears, you can see the front and rear profile shots, they are right out to the fenders. Interesting thing is that the RE050A 305's have a huge rim protector and are way out past the edge of the wheel (you may be able to see from the pics). I think my car has a slightly more aggressive rear negative camber, but I don't know the specs. With a 295 tire, I'm sure they will tuck in nicely, but even with the 305's they are a great aggressive fit. I got them with the TPMS, which I thought I should just take advantage of since the car has the system. Worked and adapted to the new wheelset after about 5 miles without a hitch.
For those interested in running the aggressive TT wheels on your narrow body, this should help you decide. Keep in mind that the tires are 305's; 295's will be an easy perfect rear fit, even with the 51 rear offset (I believe that's the stock rear turbo offset).
Had the car for a month - just couldn't leave it alone!

thats looks more aggressive than my 12" wide GT3 wheels with Pcup 305's and a 5mm spacer
the 11 is probably better off with a 295 as it looks a little poofed compared to the front sidewall. good looking wheel

Thanks guys, I really think the polished wheels set off well against the Arctic Silver paint.
I think the 305's are a bit wide too for the 11" rims. I would definitely go for the 295's next time around. Also very possible that the RE050's have a wider tread width than the PS Cup 305's. I always remember checking fitments and the Michelins generally have pretty narrow tread widths for the size spec. I should take a pic of these next to the 295 A/S tires I have. I'll bet the tread widths are an inch different. WAY more than the 10 mm the spec would suggest.
In case anyone wonders, the car is stock height - stock suspension. Although the ride height looks just perfect in the pics.
Another tidbit. I had the Classics too. I noticed that most of the wheels are scratched around the middle of the spokes. I wondered how the previous owner managed to lightly curb all of the wheels so far away from the edges of the wheels. Finally figured it out. If you look at the Carrera Classic wheels, the spokes bow out slightly - past the edge of the tires. All it took was a tire monkey to drop them face first on the pavement once. If you have the Classics, be very careful not to drop them on the face when taking them off.

ryem, your car looks lowered for some reason...
The offset of the rears are a little too much... They are even more aggressive than my HRE P40s

No, not lowered, but I'm happy with the stance. I've had other cars that rode high for the stock stance and it always pissed me off.
I think the car definitely has more negative rear camber than the car in ksa's pics, maybe only by 2 degrees. That probably also makes a slight difference in rear ride height.
I agree with Bara, the 305s on the 11's look "poofed". The handling may even improve with the 295's because of the stiffer sidewall on these wheels.
I like the look though and it is an amazing value to get these factory, polished, forged one piece wheels.

Car looks great Rye. The wheel well looks filled out perfectly compared to when you had the Classics on which did look a bit over matched with the aero kit on. I'm not a big fan of the Turbo wheel but they look really good on your car. Very nice.
