White puf of smoke on star up, DFI engine!!!

This was a normal feature on M96/7 engines. My old Boxster and 996 use to make it, but never heard any post regarding white smoke on start up with a DFI engine. The smoke only came from the right exhaust pipes. Any thoughts of what might have cause this?

My understanding is that smoke on start up is a function of the boxer engine design that allows a small amount of oil into the cylinders after shutdown. It's not obvious to me why a DFI boxer would be any less prone to this than a non DFI boxer engine. White smoke was a normal feature on my 99 Boxster and 06 Cayman. Sometimes it was just a puff, other times a small cloud. I haven't experienced this yet w/ my 09 C2S but it wouldn't surprise me either. If my analysis is incorrect I'm sure someone will set me straight!

Correct. The DFI has nothing to do with it or be impervious from it. Just do not shut a boxer engine when hot or after a spirited drive for a long period of time without letting it idle for a couple of minutes. No problem in shutting down quickly during the day if one drives it in a few hours and it's still warm. If the car is allowed to fully cool down it is when it should be idled before shutdown.
