Clutch or transmission or bad driver?
Clutch or transmission or bad driver?
So I have a 06 911S. Every since I owned it for the last year, I have felt the clutch/transmission was rougher (getting into 1st gear and going into 2nd) than it should be. I test drove the new 997.2 and Boxter S and their clutches/transmission seemed so much smoother. 997.1 owners, do you guys have the same issue????
I was reading about how some people are experience "kangarooing" and I get this too time to time. At first, I thought it was my inexperience at handling the manual transmission, but read that other are having the same issue. Does upgrading the ECU work? Does it also smooth out the transmission???
Thanks!

Having both a boxster and 911 I can say that I like the stock shift/clutch of the 911 better.
The 911 clutch and stick are perfect IMO. Smooth, with great throws. I don't think you should be having the issues you state.
(The boxster stick was too loose and had too much play. I have switched to the short shift kit.)

When I accelerate off of 1st gear, I get some jerking if I don't release the clutch perfectly. I don't think it's my manual skills because it didn't happen when I test drove the 997.2 and Boxster. Once and a while, when I release the clutch off 1st gear, I get this "kangarooing" where the car surges forward and stops, surges forward and stops until I let off the gas. Going into second gear is not really smooth unless I am driving really slow. The rest of the gears are fine. When I accelerate hard and shifting fast, the shifting is very jerky. I bought the car used so not sure anything was done to the transmission.

In my car I have an annoying whistle from clutch bearing when clutch is very hot - but as inspected I was told it may wait as it is not a reason to replace everything. As of jerkiness - that actually would mean your clutch is due, just check with mechanic to see if you just need regular clutch replacement kit or a new flywheel as well.
