You guys are giving them way too much credit. Truth is they aren't thinking about how rude they are being to you to prove some point. Fact is they just are clueless and don't even think. They just park (or whatever) without even thinking they are too close, too far, etc. The world revolves around that type.

Good point.

It's hard to believe that there are morons out there who go out of their way to find a distant parking space to protect their vehicle, and in the process land right on top of you while you're trying to do the same. That the definition of a half-wit.

I went to grocery store a few weeks ago... parked way away from any other cars.

When I come back, some a-hole parked his dually truck which is pulling a horse trailer, right next to my car. I could barely open the door.

It's not just you...

I think this happens to everyone, specially more when you are purposely parking far away.

I won't even bring my Porsches to the grocery store . The carts, the big cars . the carelessness of people . If I MUST do it .. then I park next to a Bank with cameras .

I have noticed at my supermarket that many large trucks and SUV's park far away . Maybe the truck owner parked next to you feeling that his truck wouldn't get dinged.

Maybe I'm giving him too much credit.
After all he did buy a truck.

Boy that pushed my buttons too. But I think that many are confusing errors of omission and errors of commission. Most of these incidents are not from P-car envy or malicious acts. In fact, they're because these lazy %%&( just don't care. You could be driving a Porsche or a Yugo or anything in between and many folks will just roll up, throw their door open and not even notice that they've taken off your paint (and theirs). And if they do, they just move on. Doesn't phase 'em. It's an american disease and I hate it.
There still are those who seek out and create misfortune for those who are perceived as being more successful than themselves. But they're in the minority. After all, they'd first have to care.

I've been reintroduced to being **** about my car and worrying about it with the 997. I've taken the car out to the mall a couple of times and I end up worrying about it to the point where I can't enjoy being out and about. What a double edged sword! I am hoping in time I will get over it as I want to use it as my daily, but the adjustment period is still ongoing.

I might be speaking about myself only, but the adaptation will never come. I use my P car daily and always park in the last spot close to a large handicap spot, so there is no way someone can ding my door. It didn't took long for a big mac truck decide to do the same...

I'm the same way. The Ford GT never goes to a parking lot. I have left it parked on the street, for 5 minutes or so, as long as I can see it.
The Porsche only goes to places that has 'safe parking' - work, in town on the main street, protected parking at the gym.
The Prius isn't much better. I take it everywhere, and it documents what jerks abound. The sheet metal is not much thicker than aluminum foil. It's like counting tree rings.
Finally, I have a 2000 Lexus LX470. It's actually virtually perfect, but it has plastic cladding that is perfectly positioned to prevent dings. It's like having a Spruance class cruiser for doing battle.

I absolutely hate that.. Happened to me yesterday actually. As I came out from getting some food I was with a friend and I had parked all the way in back of the lot and a guy was parked right next to me with plenty of other spots open and continued to just glare at me as I got into my car.

I think there should be parking areas proportional to how much you paid for your car. Since our cars are more expensive, pay higher sales taxes and higher insurance, there should be parking areas for our kind of cars exclusively. Not that it will ever happen.

When I had my 996 C4S, just two weeks into my ownership, I park right next to a handicap space that was empty and, surely, some a*&$les park right next and very close in a huge 70s Monte Carlo held up by rust and bondo. I am right there, inside my car, and the passenger just swung the door open and bang! dings my door. The nerve on her when she said it was no big deal, just a minor ding. I just couldn't believe the nerve but knew very well that there was no point arguing since I assessed the damage could easily be fixed by a Paintless Dent Repair guy. Moments later, here she comes out with her beer in a bag ready to drink it at 10 in the morning on a weekday. Cretins come in all sorts I guess.

And soon we will all be paying for her healthcare...

Sorry to hear about your incident...and you're right to just leave the situation behind.
same here...i go from a 15 year old corolla on the weekdays (~3 hr commute for work per day) to a 997s on the weekends. it's like multiple personality disorder
