997 Seat Swap

Hello all! I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to this Thread stuff.... I have a 06 C4S with sport seats (power back rest only); I have found a set of full power seats with memory lumbar support out of a '07 Turbo. I've been told that the seats will bolt right in but I'm uncertain on how the wiring works. Will I need to upgrade the harnesses? Or will the existing power supply be sufficient? If anyone’s done this or has some insight it would be greatly appreciated.

The seats themselves are easy. A E12 socked is all you need to remove the four bolts that hold them to the floor. And the same to put the new ones in. Be patient and careful handling them so you get them out of the car without scratching the sills, etc. I've found it helps to put the seat in the full upright position on my car.
My guess is the wiring harnesses are different and you will be able to connect the airbags and seat belts but no more. Differences would include the memory power functions (do you have three memory buttons on your door panel?) and seat heaters. The air bags and seat belts go into a big yellow plug. To remove it pull out the black locking piece at one end, which will push out the connector about half way out, then pull out the connector the rest of the way. To reinstall, put it about half way in and then push that black piece all the way in - it will draw the connector in and lock it.
There should be one or more other connectors to attach the power components. I would suggest you unbolt your seat and look to see what is under it (maybe take a few pics), and have the seller of your new seats take several pics for you as well. If he/she remembers the number of connectors and anything about them (size, color), that will help you as well.
If you don't have the harness, I am at a loss - you might need dealer help to figure out what to do and how to get it done.

Remember to disconnect the battery so the airbags are not accidentally set off when you remove the seats

Thanks p-cardriver, seems like you're on the right track with this. I talked to the dealership today and between all the yap that the parts guy was talking it sounded alot like what you were saying. Defineatly seemed like a major screw around to make these work anywhere close to factory smooth. Between the rewiring, getting new harnesses, getting memory switches, cutting in switches or replacing grills ,failure lights etc. This seemed like a good idea but not worth the $. Maybe if the seats magically appeared on my door step without spending the $2500obo their asking I'd consider it. Defineatly doable but not economical thanks

The seats do bolt right on. That part is easy. The harness of the passenger seat is the same. However the harness on the driver seat is not. The dealer would have to rewire your driver side seat and it will cost you Big$$$$. Remember they charge you by the hour on the labor. If you already have the sport seats, moving up to the adaptive sports seats would not be worth it. The differences would not be worth the $$$. I know a guy who did it. He would not do it again. Just my 2cents.

OTOH moving "down" to a seat with less electronics (no power, no heaters) is easy since you can just leave those connectors off.

Maybe a case of simply wanting what you don't have. Been there done that!

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

Having the 3 memory positions is *nice*, but not essential and the manual seats with power tilt that you have now are just as easy to adjust and just as comfortable as the memory seats in my opinion.

I find the lumbar adjustments in the full power seats pretty useless as no matter how I adjust them they only add discomfort unless the air is completely released.

I've owned cars with both and I'd actually prefer the manual seats for lighter weight and because they adjust so easily anyway.

Just stick with what you have......they are great seats!
