997TT wing on 997 C2S

I can get the 997TT rear deck with the mechanism for so cheap from a friend who removed his from his car, so i was thinking of installing it on my C2S and just change the wing blade..

The wings i came across were amazing but i love the functional (raise/lower) factor of the turbo wing..

The question is.. will it be a hassle to fit the TT deck on my C2S? what modifications should i make to make it functional?

Btw, considering that i will get the TT deck for so so cheap, the majority of money to be spent will go on the wing blade (i am looking for a carbon blade; most of the CF blades i found were $1,500 + if anyone could help me out with which blade to go for (reasonable price), that would be great)

Try it with the stock wing blade for starters, you may like it. The 997TT wing blade comes off the turbo which is a wide body, so it actually looks a bit bigger on a none wide body car.

Need to either cut the stock air box for hydraulic arms to fit inside your engine bay (could mess with MA flow sensor) or simply replace stock airbox for one that takes up less space like a K/N or Evoms. (I did evoms)

Then the wiring..... a bit of a hassle but great installer should be able to handle as you want the second wing blade to work the same way.... raise and lower at 70+mph etc...also note on this rear deck lid of a 997TT there is a brake light in the blade itself so will need to terminate those wires if you swap out for wing blade with no light.

IMO the 997TT wing blade is hands down the nicest wing for the 997 out there.... unless your modding hard and creating a track monster or other IMO a giant carbon wing blade will not look good at all....

Good luck and here are two pics.... many have seen before of my car.

If you dont buy it let people on this site know where they can....

Mickfluff: first of all two thumbs up for what u've done to ur car, its amazing.. Now back to business; in regards to the air box, I was thinking of the fabspeed intake so I think we will solve the clearance issue for the arms to fit.. Now about the wiring, do I need to mess around with the wiring and harness of the car or is it a just a simple install/ uninstall the old wiring to the new wiring of the turbo deck? Is it a big job? Please give me as much details about the wiring and issues u faced.. Thanks a million

hmmmmm

I have to admit I personally did not do the install, I paid my guy... but was kept up to date on things... I will email you pics when your ready to do it. Its not just a simple cut and match, think a bit more involved. I did not buy new harness, my 997tt wing blade came with just cut wires and my installer had to figure things out.

I maybe off on this but here is an instance... on stock 997 when your rear wing deploys the integrated brake lamp in the deployed wing takes over and the fixed light I believe stops working..... that would be silly with the 997TT wing blade cause the brake light on the 997tt wing blade is always in view wether 2nd wing blade had raised or not. So when I brake at night I actually have 4, yes a 4th brake light... actually looks pretty cool.

I will dig up some pics to post maybe next week on this. If you buy the 997TT rear deck lid (which OEM costs over 13K for all needed for this swap) I will try and help by send you some detailed pics.

You'll also need to move the fan over a bit. my guy fabricated a few custom brackets. (not a big deal) I wanted it perfect so we did this, others maybe ok with it not lining up perfect... you will know what I am saying once you get into the project... also for paint... you gotta do it right, and remove the top wing blade completely which is also a major hassle... guess you could tape it off etc, but again I wanted mine to look 100% oem so probably went a bit overboard so one would think this was from the factory.

No better modding (all modders IMO have their own style) then creating a trick looking car, that one would swear could come from the factory the way its seen but truth is tons of mods went into the car for the look achieved. Unique, different, upper end OEM look. My car is a 05 997 (not even a S).

Here are some more pics, hope it helps to explain brake light etc and give a better visiual that you may not need a giant CF wing blade....my brakes are powder coated yellow NOT PCCB... if I had to do it again would have went mexico blue. I did yellow cause I like the look, not trying to pose, thus the note.....if I did the blue wouldn't need this dumb discaimer

I've often wondered how the TT wing would look on a non-TT, and you've shown that it's fantastic.

I am surprised, however, at the extensive amount of work that it took to make this work. I was thinking that this would be a fairly simply plug-play (same size hatch, same up/down speed functionality, etc), but apparently not.

Looks great.

The difference in the TT and the non-TT is the way the intake air is collected and sent to the engine. On the non-TT 997, the air is pulled in via the deck lid into the airbox. On the TT 997 (correct me if I'm totally wrong here).. the air is pulled in via the side intakes on the rear fenders, and fed to the engine that way (and remember, there are turbo's involved here, so the intake on each side is seperate and pressurized into the engine. So the real estate space inside the engine bay is layed out differently with respect to the intake air.. hence the problem with the mechanism onthe 997 TT lid/wing and the normally aspirated 997 airbox getting in the way of each other.

wings designed for wide body 997's look a bit off on the narrow bodies. their extra width cover up the hips of the car. it would be a good mod on a C4/S

As soon as someone packages and sells a 'kit' with drop in parts for a C4, and I can find a reasonably priced TT wing 2nd hand, I'll be all over that.

Hmmmm no really in this case

Not sure I agree, in general terms guess I might given the fact that many wings fabricated for wide bodied cars could seem a bit to much on a narrow bodied car. But NOT in this topic....a 997TT rear deack lid on narrow car. The 997TT wing is not over done and not a "large wing" and would even go as far as stating its a fairly tame smaller set up compared to the aero style wing many times found on narrow cars, gt2 and gt3 wings etc.. that said, the smaller profile in general looks great on a narrow 997 and would go ahead and say it even looks a bit better as the wing looks a bit (and I mean a bit) larger on a narrow car due to the smaller width etc..
