Smallest rim size for 997 C2S

What is the smallest rim that will fit a 2006 C2S? I am looking at getting snow tires and rims. Preference would be as small as possible to get the size wall as tall as possible. Will 17" fit?

Consider 18 inch wheels. Snow tires for the 997 are readily available in this diameter. Wheels in this size can be had in a wide variety of factory, takeoff & aftermarket.

I use 18 inch rims for snow tires on my C2S and they are fine. I don't think 17s would fit but then I've never tried them.

Thanks for the quick response. I will continue to look for a set of 18" then. I assume the 19" snow tires are even more expensive than the 18" so it doesn't make sense to look. Correct?

19 in snow tires are available but more expensive. 18's work great as they give more rubber for winters potholes. Also, twice a year you'll enjoy the difference in feel between the 18s and 19s. It's like trading in your sports coupe for a sports car. 17s will not clear the s brakes.

Damon at the Tire Rack tells me that 17" wheels can fit if you get ones that are tested - I just ordered a set of 17x7.5 and 17x9 Sport Edition Cup 4 wheels plus snow tires for my '09 C2S from him based on that advice...

Why 17?
  1. Cheaper
  2. Tires are narrower and therefore better in the snow (215 on the front, 255 rear - exactly the same as I had on my Boxster and they were great all winter)

Simgr,

That's interesting! When I go on their website and pick 17" package, nothing show up. The cheapest 18" package is $1,500. How much is your 17" package? I am looking for 17" package for exactly the same reason.s

I'm not sure why this doesn't show up on their web site but I suggest you give Damon a call -- you can find his contact info by searching the forum for his name.

simgr, can you pm me with the details of your package including the price? Is it a big difference from the 18" package? The lowest I got off their website is $1,500.

Which handles better, 18s or 19s? I always thought the bigger wheels are for looks and not necessarily better performance.
