Question for owners w/Heated Steering Wheels

Just curious to hear feedback. I read there is a button on the back of the wheel to activate the heat. Does it stay on, or turn off after a certain time? Is there any light or other visual to indicate when the heat is on? Does it work well?

I'm on the fence about getting a new wheel and the heat or no heat question could decide the ultimate choice. I've always had it on the BMWs. One of the best 'frivilous' options.

Thanks

I have not had occasion to try mine yet. I have always had it on BMWs as well - hoping it is just as useful on the 911. There's not a huge difference in the price of the wheel with or without is there? I just replaced my wheel with an MF wheel - took about 2 months to get it though with heat - special order from Germany.

Indications according to the manual:

Switching on steering wheel heating
>
Press button.

The message “Steering wheel heating ON”
is displayed on the on-board computer for
2 seconds.

Switching off steering wheel heating
>
Press button.

The message “Steering wheel heating OFF”
is displayed on the on-board computer for
2 seconds.

push the button behind the bottom of steering wheel, pops up in the speedo like when it tells you to fasten seatbelt "says steering wheel heat on.. or off"

stays on till u shut off car or turn it off with button..

heat is different.. sometimes feels hotter than other times.. im trying to figure out if its based on the level of my seat heaters but doesnt seem to.... its nice.. but if i had to order the car again i would have opted out..

Thanks for the replies. Seems like a no brainer. I read that all 2009 997.2s with heated seats "accept" a heated wheel. So I'll be looking to go that route. I'll post a follow up once the deed is done.

BTW,
Wa11in, why wouldn't you do a heated wheel again? What's the drawback?

This works even better than I thought in my car. I always worry that I'll be disappointed in something and think my BMW did it better - not yet.

Push the heated seated button and the heated wheel automatically comes on - way cool - nice touch. It's all in the details.

Tonight was the first night it was cold enough to need all this - 44F - what can I say; I'm a wus from GA and cold is relative. Got in the car after it had been sitting out parked for a few hours - everything cold, windshield all fogged up as well as rear glass - hit the heated seats and defog buttons - before I was a hundred yards down the road, all was clear and I had to drop back to one light on the seat heater - very nice and cozy.

All that and...well, driving it is just a continuous pleasure - manual sport mode and shifting with the stick for nostalgic fun tonight. If variety is the spice of life, this is that spice.

I love this little car.
