Gearbox Problems?

Hey there everyone,

I was curious if anyone was experiencing premature failure with the 997 gearbox, at all?

We have been noticing that the shifting forks on the 997 gearbox seem to wear out faster then what we would normally expect. I was curious if anyone has experienced this with the street cars, or if is limited to the track cars, at this point?

Thanks for taking the time to share,

I appreciate it.

The same problem??

Hey Erik. I HAVE had problems with my 997 shifting components generally. I'm not sure exactly what the "shifting fork" is that you're referring to, but after only 24kmiles, (i'm the second owner of my '05 C2S as of 15,300mi) my shifter cable was badly worn and one day I lost all down gears (2nd, 4th, 6th) on my way home from work. Also, in the past 4k miles, my bushings in the 'box for 4th gear, 1st gear, and 2nd gear are worn and I need a new shifter unit already! Of course, this was just the catalyst for me to break down and order the OEM short shifer, which will be installed next week!

I hope this info helps.
