Keep in mind that 911s are extremly reliable and durable cars - they are build to last and there is a reason that half of all Porsche ever build are still driving
absolutely right.....+1

The biggest challenge I see in the used market right now is trying to price the cars. Prices are all over the board. Some people claim prices are firming. Meanwhile EBay bidding tends to support wholesale numbers given by Edmunds and KBB. Add a few K to those prices and you still fall short of private party and dealer prices by a long shot.

Totally true.

Get yourself to the PSDS course. You'll have a chance to learn about the cars capabilities and what may/may not be important to you. You'll also spend a couple of days with other Porsche enthusiasts that will give you more than the canned answers that are posted here weekly.

Good luck with your search.

Also, I recently made a post regarding replacement cost for an engine. From what I gathered the amount was far less than the $18K you eluded to. I would rather save and get an '05 with the remote chance of engine failure to get the right car (color/options) before buying a later model just because of the engine failure fear.

07 has one extra year of original factory warranty and the price gap on the used market is not that much on a car with 35K miles. 2007 is the sweet spot where the car has taken its depreciation yet still has some wararnty . 06 is too close in price to 07 and 08 is too far from the 06 and too close to a discounted 09 new .

The other option is to do what I did. Buy an 06 that wasn't put in service till 07, giving additional cushion for the warranty. Pay 06 price but get 07 warranty

Try and trade oe sell a car and wholesale is low . Try and buy a car and the prices are up . The best deals still are the 09 cars . Even better are 09 cars where the buyer doesn't care if the car is racing green (launch car) .

Most of the cars that look high priced ARE high priced and have sat on ebay, autotrader, and all the other sites for months . Either the owners don't really want to sell them or they are in denial that they have priiced themselves out of the market.

BTW -- a lot of 6speeders have bounced car ideas off me over the last few months . Recently almost all of them bought 2009 cars and many started out looking at used cars . The used prices just were too high to avoid the new car deals. That was NOT the case last year . Back then the the deals were on used cars and many of the guys who bought them could sell the same car now near what they paid (if they kept the miles low).

I was shopping for a 911 with the same thoughts about two months ago - turned out that the 07s were trading in the low to mid $60ks and the 06 in the low to mid $50s ...

Eventually though you would probably get the $10k difference back...

Did not see any 05s for less than $45k, most of them in the high $40s

Just in case you missed it, look at my original post which you quoted (partially) above... I specifically wrote about the fact that an extra year in warranty was a valid point if in fact you were thinking about that. You cut out a lot of my post and quoted only a small portion which doesn't reflect my train of thought accurately.

Last year the guys were buying 07 cars in the low 60's . In fact I know at least two members who got 08 cars in the mid 60's . All of thse examples could sell their cars at the price levels you are describing -- a year later . I imagine that they are glad they bought those cars .

You are accurate in yoir used car price points. They are high but you also have to look at how long those cars have sat on those lists unsold.

Months ago I said "this is the time to buy an 09" . Last year I said "this is the time to buy a CPO" but now I say this is the time to sell the the 05-07 car but it is not the time to buy one .

He's going to have to hunt for a good deal . He did express warranty jitters and my feeling is to pay as much as possible going into the car to get warranty UNLESS he knows the specific car and the owner as well as the vehicle history .

Thanks for all of the info guys.
I was looking through some Porsche dealers in Cali and came across this one:
http://rusnak-pasadena.porschedealer...29518/info.php

I'll have to wait for the pictures I requested and see how it looks.

I like the options on it, but I'm a little worried about the ceramic composite brakes... mostly the cost of replacing rotors/pads.

Hmm --I found one in Miami with half those miles and asking 2K less. No PCCB or aerokit . The one you found looks nice. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

I cut it out because i agreed with you . Your 06 motor is no different than the 07 . I looked beyond the warranty though and at price points . there's roughly a 6K price difference which adds another year of warranty and some of that will come back on resale .

Now if he found an 06 which he knew was well kept that's a different story than random shopping .

Of course there's risk with any car --even a new one --but fusing price with peace of mind warranty I feel that every day extra counts so one year can go a long way . Don't you think that a person stretthing his dollar to get into the car would be more concerned about a big repair expense?
