First Impressions: First Porsche
First Impressions: First Porsche
So I just bought an 06' S Coupe and the driving experience is incredible and all I had hoped it would be.
The only thing I'm disappointed in is the PCM interface.
It offers in depth control of all the features... but is it me or does it feel
unsafe to navigate the simplest task at all while driving?
So many menus and submenus make it very cumbersome and when the navigation *** is on the far side I feel like I'm stretching to reach it.
Maybe I just need to get used to it but it feels like it was designed by and for
programmers in a lab instead of an end user doing 80 mph down the highway in traffic.

The 997.2 PCM is a bit better w/ touch screen. That said, one issue I have found as a new user is the car demands your attention. Steering quickness, throttle response, ect., just demands a more attentive drive. One of the reasons I paid an outrageous price for bluetooth!

I love to drive and the focus is like meditation for me. I have a stressful job and it's an excuse to tune in and get guttural.
Frankly you'll get used to the PCM buttons. Once it's all set, sound, date, time etc, it's mostly yr radio on/off, volume and presets. The car is small, the buttons are so near you don't even need a multifunction wheel. Compare with BMWs, Merc or Audi, mouse/wheel systems and you'll figure that PCM is actually a model of simplicity. A Porsche is for driving, everythong else is as good as gone. New touch screens may be good but I hate screens always dirty.
