Does the coolant ever need to be changed? My booklet says "lifetime" coolant. Some posts states that the coolant is changed at the 40K service.
I do not believe in "lifetime" fluids-BMWs have similar lifetime fluids because their service is free!

I had my coolant replaced at a major servicing at 38000 miles/4 years. Antifreeze has additives that get used up. Cheap insurance to replace it every few years.

 

Given the price of the car, it does not make much sense to save on the coolant. I suggest replacing at every major service (4 years I believe)
