Also, should you decide to sell the car someday, to someone who doesn't like the louder sound, you'll be stuck without a stock exhaust to put back on. Adding an aftermarket exhaust will add sound, shed some unwanted weight, and also give you the option to go back to completely stock one day. You can then sell the aftermarket system pretty easily and recovery some of the investment.
I bought a take-off set and had them shipped to FisterD for $100. Paid FisterD his minimal fee to alter and ship to me. The entire deal was <$300 and most of that was for shipping. I had kept my originals in the event I wasn't happy with the hacked sound. It took me all of about 10 seconds to realize I made the right move and decided to move my mufflers on to someone who wanted to do the same. If I wanted to go back to honda sound, I could easily find another inexpensive set of takeoffs for $100-200. This seems like a very inexpensive route versus the price of an aftermarket muffler set. The hacked mufflers are not even close to offensive-I've never heard of anyone wanting to take them off for any reason let alone for being tool loud.

What is the entry price to buy an aftermarket set that you offer?

Tubi for 996

Hello all,

I very much want to purchase a Tubi exhaust for my 996?

Anyone have one for sale used?

Anyone know anyone that wants to sell one?

I may be able to modify a Tubi exhaust that was made for the 997. I do not know if this will work but probably would present an additional expense.

I am not in a big hurry, the stock (soundless) setup is OK, but I know there is something better out there that will not sound like a motorcycle or have the dreaded drone.

Suggestions are welcome, too.

I do not have enough posts to post one in the 'wanted' or 'for sale' section of this website.

Thanks.

Hi guys

I wanted to chime in on the PSE vs Tubi!! I ordered my car with PSE and it was a great sound just not loud enough all the time. So i later picked up the Tubi from Bara (thank you) and as he said it wasn't loud enough until you stepped on it!! I did my research here and a lot of members said the Tubi didn't sound great with 200 cell cats. Well i know it all boils down to preferences and have heard my two buddies Jabed92694 & OCpCar side by side with mine. jabed92694 had the Cargraphic loud & OcpCar had the AWE headers, AWE 200 cats with PSE Both sounded awesome!! I had the Tubi (Bara) and Tom at Rennsport hooked me up with the X51 Headers & AWE cats!! Boy oh boy does the car sounds good!!! There's no need to step on it but when i do you better believe it turn heads!!! Thank you Bara and a big thank you to Tom!!!!

agreed i'll get little to any credit for after-market mods in resale. but some non-OEM mods actually detract from the value at least here in HK

all makes sense, thanks!
I have the PSE and I love the sound and the button to go quiet or loud. In my opinion, I would say that it's a good way to go if you're thinking of trade-in. Also, with the PSE, you won't need to worry about setting off any CELs or not passing inspection.

More questions

Hello,

Many thanks for your quick reply.

If I understand correctly; you first had the Tubi and that was not loud enough for you with the stock headers and cats. So, before you changed those two parts of the system what was it like? MPG? Power? Fit and finish?

I want to upgrade but I don't want loud.

Further, the X-51 is some sort of a factory upgrade for more power. Right?
I would like to know more about that and all the other header upgrades as well. I've gone from stock to 'headers' before on different cars and the "seat of the pants dyno" was noticable. Thing is, the stock headers look like a very well designed and part of the system. Also, I have seen header offerings from $100 to over one thousand$$$.

The cat application looks like a decision between stock and a streetable cat called 200 something. Then, I've seen a straight pipe setup too. Also, a muffler eliminator that is just a straight pipe.

I plan to wrench this myself and have over 40 years wrenching, that's the only way I can have a car like this, so I am always looking for a good deal that will involve some dirty work on my part.

So many parts for sale and so little$$$$.

Thanks again.

airedale,

If you'd like, please feel free to give me a call. I'd be happy to give you a clearer picture of what options are out there, and what results you could expect from each one.

If you have time, do a search on this forum for exhaust. There are tons of threads and replies about all of your questions. With headers it comes down to two things from what I gathered, the shape (equal length vs. not) which moves the HP/torque band to different RPM ranges and then the quality. Tubi and a few other headers are VERY expensive, whereas AWE isn't too expensive and seems to be a very popular choice on this forum. The CATs really comes down to how much you want to risk CELs and failing smog tests. The 200 cell CATs seem to be the next step up from stock. Then there are 100 and 50, but you will throw CELs (check engine lights) and you will absolutely fail smog inspections and probably it would be noticeable to a cop if he is behind you on a bike or stops you and you leave your car running.

Hi airedale. It wasn't me, but I'd like to echo a few good comments in this thread:

* do a lot of search & read -- many good reviews and vids (though hard to really appreciate the exhaust sound through computer speakers).
* call a few reputable vendors (not just one). I recommend you speak with Rennsport-1, Sharkwerks, and AWE. There are other reputable vendors, but those are my preferred.
* exhaust note is a very personal choice. The choice may also change over time. For example, I just bought the Cargraphic exhaust which is a deep, throaty sound. Perhaps in a few months I'll want something more high-pitch such as what the PSE offers.
* resale on exhaust in my experience tends to be good. I just sold my Sharkwerks bypass from my GT3 to another 6speeder for perhaps 80% of what I paid. He got a good deal, and so did I.
* Note resale on other mods can net you very little, if anything.

Good luck and have fun with it.

I think you'll find as many different answers here as loudness or sounds is subjective. There are a lot of threads if you search the forum for exhaust. There are members using just about every combination you can think of and all believe theirs is best. Also, sound clips don't really give you the entire picture. However, you can search on YouTube and find a number of different setups to at least get some idea. The usual suspects are AWE, Cargraphics, Tubi, Fabspeed and a little Borla thrown in.
