Advice requested: strongly considering a '06 C2S Cab
All, although I'm no Porsche newbie, I have not owned a 997. I'm considering a C2S or C4S cab, and have my eye on two. The 2006s have taken the greatest hit, likely because they're very close to being out of warranty.
Here are my questions:
1) What should I look out for? Assume the cars have 25-30K miles and have been properly cared for. Single owners. I figure the car may need brakes soon. Clutch should be OK if properly driven. I'd get a PPI.
2) If I'm out of warranty, what should I worry about happening, and what are the tell-tale signs I need to look for?
3) assume the cars are fully loaded, $100K+ MSRP cars. What's a "great" deal? With or without a CPO?
4) can you CPO a used car that you are purchasing from a private party?
I really appreciate the advice.

Booby G - I just purchased a MINT C2S and my advice to you is to look for the best car that you can possibly afford - not necessarily for a great deal. It took me close to a year to find my car and I can tell you that it was well worth it. Set yourself a max budget and then shop around. I bought mine with almost a full year left on the factory warranty + CPO with about 6K miles for around $56K (MSRP of $99K). In my opinion a warranty is a must on these type of cars (PPI too).
You cannot CPO a car from a private party unless he has a good relationship with his dealer and the dealer agrees to buy the car then sell it to you.
Good luck!

In addition to getting the car thoroughly checked out by a dealer, I'd suggest testing each car in one of the nearby canyons (Valley Glen / Topanga) for comparison of the 2 wheel vs. all wheel drive and the general feel of each cars mechanicals. Then, you'll know which one handles best according to your liking.
Good luck on your choice, then enjoy the ride!
