Anyone know of a childseat that will fit a 997 Cabrio?

Hi everyone! I'm new to the 6 Speed community. I wanted to say hi and start with a question. I just made the jump from a Cayenne S to a 997S cabrio and loving it! However, I have a 2 year old and she has to fit somewhere...so the wife says. So I wanted to ask those that might know which childseats they are using for 997 cabrio on the back seat. What their experience was, would they recommend it and where to purchase it?

Any pics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I asked this same question within the past few weeks...you should do a search of the forum as a number of posters had useful information.

Best of luck.

I believe the Britax runabout or runaround, something like that, is the one that takes the Porsche brand. Just pick a sit with narrow base, it should do it.

Britax Roundabout. You have to take the base off to make it fit properly (the base comes attached to the seat with two metal bars that are pretty easy to take off).

I have a '06 997 S Cabriolet. I also have a 2 yrs old, well 2 yrs 9.5 mths to be exact. The short answer to your question, nothing will fit perfectly because there is no top anchor. However, if you are comfortable with just using the seatbelt to secure the childseat, then you are still in business. I use Sunshine Kids Radian 85 - http://www.macklems.com/sunshine-kid...n-car-seat.htm and it works. It is never going to be as secure as when I use it in the BMW 5 series or in the Subaru Ouback but it's not wobbling either. I also have the Britax Roundabout. It does not fit in the cabriolet. I understand it fits well in the coupe. If you look closely, you will see that the cabriolet and the coupe rear seats are different. Good luck.

How did you get the Sunshine radians in without them wobbling? I really cranked on the seat belt and clip...but the tops of the seats still seemed to swish around a few inches. Made my wife too nervous...so we went with boosters instead. (I actually purchased a pair, then returned them)

Was a shame... The 5-point harness is really much easier to buckle than the shoulderbelts through the standard Recaro Vivo boosters. (There isn't very much room to buckle the belt in...I'm leave a little skin from my knuckles every morning.

I use one noodle - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pool_noodle and it makes it better. What I do is fully extend the seatbelt until it clicks, then thread it through the carseat, then let it retracts, until it is just a bit too short, then sit on the seat and compress the noodle until I can just snap on the seatbelt buckle. If you try to buckle it first and then retract the seatbelt, it will always be a couple inches longer than desired. It's still not very solid but as I said, it will never be since all of these child seats are designed to be used with the top anchor.

How did you end up using booster? Over here in Canada, booster can't be used, legally, until the child is at least 40" tall and 40 lb.

Pool noodle? Brilliant! MY kids (twins) are a little older, so ht & wt isn't an issue.

FYI - In 3 months, we've only lost 1 stuffed animal.

I had an anchor installed. You can buy one pretty much anywhere and i had the dealer mount the anchor to the frame. They put it on the back panel in the middle of the two rear seats

Felt like the seat was welded after i did that

Pics attached (the best i could find, haven't had the car in a long time) Seat was Sunshine Kids Radian

Unfortunately, I am still trying to convince my daughter to let me open the roof while she is in the car - I rather lose the stuffed animal than drive around in top down weather with the top up.

What do you mean by back panel? You mean on the back of the rear seats where the roll-over bars are? And if so, how do you remove the childseat? Do you have to open up the panel covering the roll-over bars?

I wish i had taken a picture...

if you lower the rear seat backs they put it between the two, about 3 inches above the hump so it didn't interfere w/the rolllbars

They bolted the anchor to a piece of steel, about 1 foot wide, maybe 2 inches high and bolted it all to the frame (it was about the size of a ruler and behind the rear seat backs.....and they closed back no problem)

I've drawn (and i'm horrible at it) a pic where it went. Didn't interfere w/anything and was amazing

btw, i also took my car & baby seat to the local fire station and they installed & certified it to meet all requirement (w/a $20 donation....i gave the $50 since i was amazed how well they got it secured)

I thought I needed car seats but it turns out the kids fit very well without them (did not need boosters). It turns out that the important thing is how the seat belt rests on the shoulder. The booster just makes sure it does not rest on the neck. Baby seats are a different story but you have something to look forard to once they reach 4 years or so.

I searched briefly online for buying anchors without any good results. Where did you get yours from?

While the seat fits really good in the space (with and without the seat cushions), it does not feel well attached. The huge Britax Boulevard I had there earlier was secured a lot better. The problem with the sunshine is that it routes the car's belt a lot lower.
