81k for an 09 997 Carrera non S. Well optioned.

Found the same well optioned car today. Dealer wanted 71k. msrp was 91.5
Problem is... I drove a turbo today. I don't know if I'll be happy unless I drive home in that.
I have a decision to make

I can relate .

Otherwise, I would have brought home a $150k car and faced an angry wife.
Another way to look at it is: sometimes it is more fun to want something, then to get something.
I am picking up my new 2009 C2 coupe tomorrow. I am satisfied, for now.

A 911 Turbo, 997.2 or 997.1 is probably the best car ever. Now the question is, what for? For tracking, I still believe a GT3 should be more fun. On roads, 55mph on Interstate, playing hide and seek with patrol, I guess any 911 is good enough. On country roads, too much power could actually be less fun.
In my country, Turbo also means "prestige" - like a Ferrari if you wish. Special insurance bracket, more tyres, more clutch, more brakes, "turbo-qualified" staff only (with turbo hourly rates), etc etc. Big boy toys for big boy wallets. And I'm not one.

Not sure if this is applicable to you, but I told myself, "This is your first Porsche, so you can always get a TT next year or two...".

Which is why I'm considering the turbo. I'm thinking I should drive a gt3 as well

Another vote to pass on that car. I paid $91K for a new 2009 C2 'S' Cabrio with a $112K sticker about 6 weeks ago. I'd look for a better deal on an 'S' or jump up to that Turbo.

Dont be deceived by the amount of hp / tq that the engine has. I currently have a monster of a stang, but the way Porsche utilizes the power is very different. Its not all about what the engine puts out, it's how it transfers it to the ground and utilizes every hp to its full potential. Also, everything happens above 5k on the the tach, so unless you winded her out through the gears, you are not being exposed to it's full potential.

I replied earlier in the thread that I found another similar car for 10k less. I offered cash and OTD was approx 81k.

It's my first Porsche, but I'm coming from an e60 m5. I love the way the Carrera feels and drives. It's truly a unique experience. Everything seems purposeful and precise. However.. If I'm going to spend 80k+ on a car, I honestly want a bit more power than what the base carrera brings to the table.
