As the odomometer nears 10K miles
I love this quote. I, too, live in Chicago and had a Cayman with over 75K on it. I have to admit, though, that my 997 S is in storage this winter. I'm driving a GTI in the snow.
I have to agree that these cars are meant to be driven, I am guilty of not driving mine as much in the winter, as it is more about safety for me, I run PS2's all year round, and when the weather gets to cold for the tires, I leave it in the garage. When the weather is warm enough, I am driving it for sure.
As for the 10k miles, that equates to 16,000 Km and it doesn't mean anything, just drive your cars, when it comes time to selling it, worry about the milage then!

I'm pushing 9000+ miles here on my 05. The only factor I believe about 10K is when you look at the odo, it seems as if your baby has lost its innocence the in the same way it does when you crack your first 1000 miles.
Enjoying the "cold" South Florida weather is ideal P car weather. Now if I can only relax about the IMS thing. (Fortunately I have an extended warranty thru 2012)

Are you saving the car for the next owner? It appears that you do not like the car, since you do not drive it much.

And incidentally, stats show that failed boxer engines tend to be garage queens... If you are worried about any failure, you want to drive it a lot and have it fixed under warranty. I guess not.

I have 3 Porsches. My 05 Boxster has 34K and my 83 930s cabrio has 117K. The Carrera is a mission specific vehicle. If the weather is really great, convertible it is.....plus I have another 2 vehicles that are my daily drivers (BMW and Lexus).
By the way, the stats on the failed boxer engines are not garage queens. Exotic cars tend to be driven less than american and japanese cars. In addition, there really are no "true" stats and many a post show it can just "happen" at any time.

To PTParks, post #5:
Congratulations on the "beater"! I'm not worried about 'excessive mileage', whatever that may be, but I really enjoy parking my liability only beater wherever I want, I appreciate not having a bunch of ********* making assinine remarks, I don't have to clean it up after every ride, and I take a perverse joy listening to guys bragging about the wonders of their Miatas or baby BMWs. Further, there is nothing 'awe inspiring' driving around Orlando or Indianapolis no matter what you are driving. Lastly, and maybe it's just me, when I do drive the 911s I appreciate it even more.

.
My 2008 C2 has 16k miles on it, I got it when it had exactly 9853 on the clock and was never titled. So, technically a new car with pre-owned miles resulted in a good $58k price. I haven't driven it in 3 days and am missing it. Might need to take her out for a spin this afternoon.
I'll chime in again --
There is a certain joy to a low mileage car . The feeling of having it is happiness in itself . For instance I think most owners are happy on the day they buy the car even BEFORE they drive it off the lot . The same is said with those who buy a car out of region and wait for it to be trannsported or those who order a custom car. In short -they are enjoying it wiithout actually driving it.
Then there's getting into a two year old car and it's STILL NEW. That is just an incredible feeling . The process of enjoyment is somehow savored rather than a common task.
With food ... some people like to eat and others like to dine . A low mile long term keeper is my version of car ownership dining . It's slow motion appeal makes it different . In fact there are times that i get into the car after it sat awhile , and tun on the radio and listen to a CD which I placed months before and that in itself not only gives the car a nostalgic feeling but also brings me back in time to think about what I may have been feeling the last time I drove it.
It's just a different way of experiencing the machine . I have had both --the DD and the low mile car .
