What's up with these Corvette ads?
First Corvette is not a brand it is a model under the Chevy brand. Second from Meriam Webster:
Main Entry: 1sto·ried
Pronunciation: \ˈstȯr-ēd\
Function: adjective
Date: 14th century
1 : decorated with designs representing scenes from story or history <a storied tapestry>
2 : having an interesting history : celebrated in story or history <a storied institution>
it is exactly what I interpreted it to be. It is rather redundant to use storied in conjunction with history.

huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, that just shows you have no idea of automotive history whatsoever....
Corvette introduced in 1953
Porsche founded in 1931
No brand has won more races than Porsche.
I am not bashing one brand over the other. I think the ZR-1 is an unbelievable bargain for the performance inherit and outperforming the 997tt on the Ring. I do not like their interior, I would not mind owning a Corvette if I had room for another car but lets keep things straight. GM may have a decent histroy, Corvette has nothing, even today with the best vette ever we have what GT races with vettes, what else? Nothing.

Sorry if I confused you, was comparing the Vette to the 911(ad did say Porsche 911 vs Corvette)...not so much Porsche to Chevrolet/GM. Could everyone at least agree that compared to most other brands/manufactures etc, the Corvette and Porsche(911) have proud and successful pasts-histories??
The simple reasons why I never wanted a Corvette were because when I was growing up, a redneck across the street had a 1972, blue, and he wore a Corvette jacket around. It annoyed me. I also don't like Corvettes b/c of their HORRIBLE interiors. It looks like a Cavalier to me. Just can't take it. Yes, they have immense power and are pretty lightweight, and do have some good technology, but the overall package to me is a turn-off.
And another thing - that link compares a Grand Sport to a base Targa. Even then, if you look at the interiors of both cars, and that beautiful sliding roof on the Targa, it tells you "you are in the presence of greatness". Sorry Vette but I just don't like you.
I guess the other thing to mention is that as Ferry Porsche once said "there is no perfect car"...which is true. Yeah, a Corvette is a great value for the money, as is a Mustang GT (which I have driven and actually loved). Maybe I'll drive one...but a true sports car should have great steering, I would figure that's a prerequisite. Anyway, I guess it depends on how you're brought up, too, and where your loyalty lies. I've always preferred the steering feel of German cars. But I must admit, the 2008 Bullitt Mustang I drove would find a place in my collection if was lucky enough to have the $$ to have two sports cars.
And I guess all these references to winning a race aren't really relevant when it comes to the most frequent driving: street use and practicality on a daily basis. I mean good Lord, what does it take to satisfy ? Personally I don't get all bent out of shape if somebody tries to blow my doors off in a Corvette. We'll see how it runs in about 10 years, and how much it rattles, and how much it's worth. I mean, 0-60 in about 4.7 sec is really good enough for me, if the looks are appealing, the ladies like it, and it's entertaining.
I haven't read the whole thread, but in answering the OP Corvette and GM in general are on an aggressive advertising campaign. Maybe you've seen the commercials "May The Best Car Win" comparing them and Toyota, Honda, Lexus etc.
Porsche is the benchmark of performance and quality, if people can find any comparable advantage with that vehicle they will use it. It's very smart advertising IMO. I'm hoping GM does well because they are an American company.

Carrera S v. Z06
I have both a Carrera S coupe and a Z06 coupe. To begin with I will tell you that they are purposed dffferntly. If you try to compare them it is like apples and oranges.
If I want ultimate performance on the track and ultimate torque (and yes, I do race) then I will most likely pick my Z06). The Z06 is capable of a level of performance - if you can drive it - that my Carrera S cannot equal. It would honestly take a Turbo to be competitive. However, if I want great performance and engineering along with interior finish then I will drive my Carrera S. However, I will say with the new, upgraded Z06 interior, the difference is not all that great and I have the nicest interior in my Z06 and full leather in my Carrera S.
And, acutally, the exterior fit between the cars is not that much dfferent. But, the paint is better on my Pcar; however, it still has "orange peel" frome the factory, which I find very hard to accept on a $114k vehicle.
Again, that being said, the 2 cars are very different and are not a direct comparison IMHO. Performance for the $, Vette has no equal. Again, IMHO. If you decide that you are more interested in engineering and fit/finish the the Porsche is the ticket.
I am fortunate enough to be able to drive both.
The Z06 modded, like mine, is a handful, and that it no BS. And, it is very easy to drive every day. That being said, my Carrera S with PDK has no equal in the "fun factor" on the street and I've driven one on the Bahn for 10 days as fast as it would go on a Porsche Fest trip. Way Cool!!!
Anyway, it's all subjective. It just depends on what you want. If you want the gut wrenching, put you back in the seat torque, with great handling (if you can manage it)then the Vette is the ticket. If you want the higher revs, wailing, great handling and well engineered car then the PCar is your weapon of choice.
HOWEVER, don't demean or deminish the Vette. For what it is it is very hard to equal. As I said, I am very fortunate to be able to drive both - and I love them both!
Further, for those who want to compare the Pcar, whether GT3 or TT, beware of the Z06 or ZR1. In the hand of a capable driver the Vettes are tough to beat. Simply look at the records of the C5R and the C6R. They were so overpowering that all others bowed out in their class - including my beloved PCar.
I can't ever see myself being without a Porsche. But, I do think that some day soon Porsche will have to deal with the $/performance factor and give us all a little more for our money.

If you judge people by what they drive or what they are able to afford to drive then you are missing out on a lot of nice folks!
