What's up with these Corvette ads?
The Corvette is a proven sports car, on and off the track... of course it can be compared to the 911. What's the point of this thread again? To feel good about how your car cost more?
I am sure I am going to get bashed on hard by the corvette guys...but this is the truth for me. Since the late 80's Vettes (and they really didn't update too far from this shape until the C6) every time I see a corvette, I think nice Barbie car. I am not sure it was a smart move by GM to give Barbie the marketing rights...didn't they at least push for Ken to get the damn thing?
I think the C6 was a big step in the right direction...some more aggresive styling and less Barbie car look, but it might take generations to get that image out of my head.
What is funny...there is probably no way mattel would let her set foot in a corvette these days. Way too much carbon footprint!!! My guess is that like any good environmentalist she only drives a prius...and a huge motor home.

Easy
I think the purpose of this thread is to compare apples and oranges
The point of the thread was about whether the Corvette could take market share from the Porsche audience. I think it's been shown that's probably not going to happen—Porsche and Corvette owners are a different group IMO with some overlap, but probably not a lot.
If GM is willing to raise the interior quality of the car, they'll obviously raise the price; I don't know how that's going to affect its demographic.
It's not just the interior, it's the brand. I dont consider a vette because at the end of the day i'm driving a vette. Some call that elitism, but it's more appropriately tied to the brand, and that rests solely at the feet of GM and their product. And a brand is defined over time by the quality of the product in relation to the cost—no more and no less. You can spend a billion dollars on branding to create an image, but at the end of the money it's the product that will define the value.

Doesn't seem terribly surprising. If raw straight line power is your measure of a sports car, only the turbo can compete with the house sized engines in the vettes and its more than twice the price of a base vette (which IMHO feels even faster than it is b/c of the 'sitting on a fire******* driving effect")
A real car enthusiast would realize this, the Corvette has been one continous lineup between C1 all the way thru the C6 and they all have immense heritage, racing provenance and storied history thru the generations. Were not talkin about a Cobalt here, were talking about a car that has transcended GM and has its own name recognition. Are they a little bit crude, are they a little bit rough around the edges yes but thats what makes a car a car its idiosyncrasies and nuances.
Corvette introduced in 1953
Porsche founded in 1931
No brand has won more races than Porsche.
I am not bashing one brand over the other. I think the ZR-1 is an unbelievable bargain for the performance inherit and outperforming the 997tt on the Ring. I do not like their interior, I would not mind owning a Corvette if I had room for another car but lets keep things straight. GM may have a decent histroy, Corvette has nothing, even today with the best vette ever we have what GT races with vettes, what else? Nothing.
This thread kind of saddens me, I got on these threads because I had been considering a 996TT before I bought my Vette. I also have thought of replacing it with a 997S or modified 996 TT. I guess I thought that alot of the Porsche owners were like the ones I had met, down to earth and accepting of me even though I own a plastic fantastic!
I think that most people that can afford a Corvette can also afford a Porsche but now I wonder if buying a Porsche is going to give me an elitist attitude to look down my nose at my former Corvette brethren.
