Question noob question about 997s care! PLEASE HELP!

Hi, I really need help on some advice and care issue.

I am car care noob who got 06 911 S last year(2009) april.

It was a certified used car lease and had 28,000 miles.

36 month lease.

WHAT I WANT TO KNOW is what kind of care do I need for this car.

I have been feeding 91 or 89 some times for gas.

It is now 41,000 miles now so I used 13,000 miles.

I dont go to any race tracks or stuff like that.

1. How long the tires usually last until the change?

2. How long engine-oil usually last til change?

3. What happens if I dont warm up the car before I start to drive.

4. Should I change engine oil and tire only at dealer?

5. If not, how much do you expect for tire change(4 of them)?

6. How much do you expect if I just go to a body-shop and change the engine oil?

This is my tire with 25 cent/quarter coin in the thread. Please tell me how it is worn out.

I am in similar position - hereis what I have learned from reading the forum posts

1. How long the tires usually last until the change?
~10,000 miles

2. How long engine-oil usually last til change?
Q2 yrs or 20k for 997; q1yr or 10k miles for 997.2 (2009+)

3. What happens if I dont warm up the car before I start to drive.
No clue

4. Should I change engine oil and tire only at dealer?
Depends on your comfort level; I changed the wheels myself, but I do not change my own oil; some here do.

5. If not, how much do you expect for tire change(4 of them)?
My dealer charges $165; Others go to NTB, Honda dealer etc and pay 40-80; Cheap floor jack, torque wrench, and socket set will run about $120

6. How much do you expect if I just go to a body-shop and change the engine oil?
I have had dealers quote anywhere from 170 to 250 for oil change

1) I assume that you have a manual; read it.
2) Make friends with your local Porsche Service Manager; he'll answer you questions and give you the "recommended" service schedule.
3) Get the contact name(s) at your local PCA chapter; contact them and ask for a good indie in your area.

Porsche Dealer service $$ generally 25-50% more than at a decent Porsche independent if you can locate one. I'd probably keep away from the NAPA type shops even though some of them might very well have an experienced Porsche guy.

Your car - age and mileage - is at the point where it needs a lot of stuff unless you have records that it's been done: filters, brake flush, new battery, etc.

Lastly, you DON'T warm up a Porsche engine; you drive it when you start it, keeping the RPMs below 4000 until the oil temperature comes up.

I change the oil once per year or every 5K miles (whichever comes first).
If your car is leased .. it's really their car . I would service it where they recommend.
I would not put 89 octane in the car.
Tires -My worst was 6K miles on rears and my best was 13K . Usually its two sets of rears for one set of fronts . The types of tire as well as driving conditions will determine the wear as well as price.

1. It is impossible to predict as you can wear PS2s down to cord at a single DE event. Practical advice is to inspect tires and if you see unequal wear on left-right side - go to local Porsche shop/mechanic and get new alignment done - get close to 0.02 front toe and 0.10 rear toe with max negative camber in front (-1 degree) and -1.5 degree of negative camber in rear. This will reduce your tire wear significantly. Make sure mechanic uses proper weight on driver seat to compensate for your weight.

2. Change oil every September as a rule of thumb. If you drive car all winter long - change it also in March. Fresh oil is cheaper than engine repair.

3. It`s not problem, but never abuse cold car. Roll out slowly and try do not exceed 4K rpm until your oil temperature will start moving up from lowest position. Coolant will warm up much faster but it is not relevant.

4. Why for? most folks change oil themselves myself included. It is very simple - search for it. If you do not like to mess - find private local Porsche shop near to you.

5. I got new tires mounted and balanced on new rims with nice stainless steel valve stems for somewhat close to $200 I guess. I just always want to see how tires getting balanced with my own eyes.

6. Bodyshop does not change oil, bodyshop fixes dents. Regular Porsche shop will most likely charge 1 hour labor - $130 or so plus price of oil ($70-$80). You can try to negotiate it down a bit as this operation is very simple. I would not do just oil change - once a year you need to flush your brakes and get new brake fluid, also once a year I would replace air filter as well, and most likely put new front brake pads if old ones are used for more than 50% so work adds up. Most of this you can do yourself in your garage.

If you do not intend to keep this car after lease ends - follow official dealership requirements - ask your service manager what he believes your should do and how often and let them take care of it and keep track of maintenance records in your manual books.

Just my thoughts here:

1. How long the tires usually last until the change?
Honestly depends on your driving and the tire brand/ratings, but seems that the rears on the Porsche need to be replaced 2x as the fronts. You could go thru a set in as little as 5000miles........or get 15000K+ out of a set. (Sorry, but that question is very subjective and owner dependent)

2. How long engine-oil usually last til change?
Personally I never wait past 5000miles for a change, and error on the early side if anything.

3. What happens if I dont warm up the car before I start to drive.
If you warm up the car, do not exceed 3000rpms before your oil temps get to normal. Probably one of the biggest engine-killers not letting your engine(oil) warm properly before pushing the engine.

4. Should I change engine oil and tire only at dealer?
If you are not doing it yourself, then I'd opt to hit a dealer for the oil change, but, hit a reputable tire dealer for those (and I dont mean Discount tire, Tire Rack). Around here we have places like ButlerTire that specialize in "high end" cars, alignments and touchless tire mounting. The money you could save at a lesser place will ultimately cost you in potential wheel damage.

5. If not, how much do you expect for tire change(4 of them)?
Good reference for tire prices (in this case) would be online at TireRack for a price, then add $50 per tire for mounting/balance. Many people get tires from TireRack delivered, then mounted at their own shop.

6. How much do you expect if I just go to a body-shop and change the engine oil? I would not let a body-shop attempt anything other than "body shop" work. Example being oil-drain-plug..........probably takes 18lbs of torque (which is not much) to tighen and use a NEW washer. One mistake being too tight and you are looking at a costly fix.
