When I had a BMW M roadster (had the older 240 hp M3 engine), the tech and salesman advised me to be very careful about revving the car until it warmed up, b/c bearings could fail, is what they told me.

I wonder if it's a similar situation here. It could be a design flaw but it could also be exasperated by somebody abusing the car before it's warmed up.
