Carrera 4s disconnecting drive shaft for AWD??

Hello everyone, i am looking for my first porsche and saying bye to my loved m3. I love the 2wd (997 c2s) but like the AWD option on the 4s. I plan to track the car sometimes and modify it in terms of power (supercharge or turbo) and handling but also use it as a weekend car also. I love my m3 because i can drift it and let the rear lose quite easily but the C4s has more of an aggressive look to me and i like the wider rear. If i get a c2s im stuck with 2wd all the time but someone told me i can disconnect the power to the front wheels of the 4s and therefore having a c2s when i want it, re connect and im back to 4wd... FEEDBACk or experiance is greatly appreciated i want to know what car to start looking for thanks guys

You really need to test drive the 4S and 2S before making a decision.

There was an earlier post on the new 4S being able to be driven in RWD by clicking up the e-brake 1 step....but I think this is only on the new AWD PDK's. (This feature isn't on my standard '07 911 "4" ). You should definitly talk to someone that drifts a PDK. (I look forward to seeing the 'how to drift a PDK" on youtube....especially without a clutch).

09+ c4 pdk up one click on parking brake. You may not want to try and "drift" a 911 though bimmer boy.

I pulled up the emergency brake one click and the light comes on the dash saying " emergency brake on" that bothers me.
Didn't feel any drag on the brakes, but you won't see me running around town with the emergeency brake on.

It would be very stupid buying a 4WD, neutering its front traction, and carrying all its dead dead weight for nothing, don't you think?

I think you'll prefer staying w/ Bimmers. 911s are strange cars that only a few really get.

im sitting here at home going thru the threads and this is the second thread that i came across that a bimmer guy wants to buy a porsche and someone chimes in with some sort of sly remark that is borderline an insult. why is that? whats with that elitist mentality? the m3 is just as much a bench mark on the track as a 911 and a stock m6 vs a stock 911 in a straight line will give it all sorts of trouble. so come on guys we are all car guys here!!

as far as his question i have heard of this being done and done successfully..

haha I don't think so. It's these lame threads that keep going and don't really make total sense.

You mean taking a car that was made to be AWD and totally desecrating it doesn't make sense?

Not at all. I am just trying to save him time. He loves BMWs. BMWs are great cars but 911s are very different cars. Often, people are interested in them but given their experience with other cars they are disappointed. That's all.

I note that you and a few others on this thread are very new to the forum. What do you know about 911s?

I'd like to think more then most of the owners On a more serious note, I started out my motorsport hobby in a 993 doing PCA auto-x events. Since the 993s, I have been anything but impressed with the 911s to follow. Cuts in quality and the need to sell to the doctor who drives 50 miles each way to work have ruined the soul of the car.
