Need tire advice

I now have 15k on my 09 Targa 4S and the rear tires need to be replaced. Would you guys recommend all seasons or should I stick to the OEM? Would the all season negatively affect the performance and feel of the car?

Any advise will be appreciated...

I would stick to a sportier tire then an all season. All Seasons won't get you around that well in the Winter, and won't be great in the summer. If it is a cost issue, there are lesser priced tires then what Porsche ships the car with.

It would be quite a bad idea to have different brand of tires in rear than you have in front especially if you do not know how exactly those tires behave.

When your fronts and rears will have to be replaced - go with max performance summer tires. 'All season' tires is not a good idea by all means. Research this subject and if you do not know what to choose - look here for an examples:

I would recommend to try potenzas re-11 as I plan to get those tires after I will end set of PS2s I currently have.

For winter get separate set of winter tires like Michelin PA2.

Good question timing OP. I am starting to look for new shoes also for my 09 C4S. I am at 12,500 miles and last service (which was HPFP failure!) they did mention I should replace in the next couple thousand miles. To me, the only reasonable option seems the standard PS2's that it came with, but unfortunately those will be no less than about $1900 installed all 4 tires at TireRack.com prices.

Looks like Potenza re-11 is an option according to utkinpol, which would save me a few hundered $$, but what makes that a reasonable option? Any experience with those?

Tires are always an interesting subject. I also own a Targa which I use as a daily driver all year long. I have asked the dealer about all-season tires as here in New Jersey the cold makes me more concerned about slipping on a cold rainy day. It seems to me if I am not going to track my Targa ( I don't know if they allow them on a track) if it doesn't make sense to have all season tires which would be better in the winter and give up some agility in the summer. I will still enjoy all year round the open airy feeling of the Targa. Is this wrong thinking.

I'd definately stick with the same model of tire in a "4" type of car. My understanding is the ECU is quite critical on the performance of all 4 corners. (Even to the point of, sticking with the same N-x spec tire). The N-X for the Porsche have a slightly different tire compound than a non Nspec (so im told by porsche and tire rack)

I would get a set of Winter Tires for the winter, and summer tires for the summer.

Been there and done that - All season tires are truely the worst of both worlds IMO, and suggest dedicated winter and summer tires. When you think about it, once your initial purchase is done, you end up enjoying the car more and your summer tires last longer (well, not more miles per se but you're not racking up miles on them during the winter!).

Can I ask what tyre sizes you guys are using for your RE-11s?

I'm on a 997.2 C2 with the 19" rims. I can't seem to get the rears 295/30R19 in that size. I can find 305/30R19s (which is the correct size for the Carrera 4).

The only other tyre I could find in the same league as the RE-11s were the ADVAN Neova AD08, which according to tyre rack has better track performance, but I'd prefer the RE-11s for better road sensibility.

Would I be able to use the C4 rear tyre width for the C2 and not have any issues with the ABS/TC?

agreed. All-seasons should really be called no-seasons.

I don't drive in the snow anymore...but...I've never seen an All Season tire I liked....it's either snow tires or sport (summer) tires.

many people with C2's use the 305's in the rear, so you could definitely use them.
