A Radical Thought
A respected UK journalist who recently bought a 997S has since driven a base 997 with PCCB's and reckons it's the better car. His argument is that the base 997 with PCCB's and 18" wheels is carrying significantly less unsprung weight at each corner than the 997S with 19" and PASM, and so both handles and rides better.
If the guy was a known idiot I would pass it off without thinking but he's respected. So has anyone here considered that as an option? (btw I'm still sticking with my plan of ordering a 997S so that's not the reason for the question).
Anyone tried a 997, or 997S with PCCB's?

Handles better? The difference in curb weight between the S and standard is, according to the brochure 3131 verses 3075 lbs. Consider in the fact that S turned lap times at the Ring that were 21 seconds faster than the outgoing 996, I can't see how the base model, that is very similiar to the outgoing model would handle better, given these numbers. This topic is pretty hot on Rennlist as well, and there seems to be some good arguments for both sides. I test drove both, and found the S is Sport mode to be a superior car. Just my opinion. I have 750 miles on the S and love it. Coming out of an 04 996, I felt it was that good that I traded in my previous car. We will see in the Spring when it hits the track. I suppose the standard model would be a better choice if you were going to mod it, in which case you can choose your own brakes, suspension, wheels, engine work, etc. and have a car that is superior to the S, and stay within the price difference.
