Possible warranty issues could arrive with check engine or warning lights if there was a problem. Also the time to find the right specific seats for swap, the right style, color and condition. Then for two parties removal and installation costs, making custom packing, and freight costs, which being in Iowa is a strong possibility as the Porsche ownership population tends to be on the two coasts. Plus the unknown surprises that can happen in unexplored territory like this all meant to much hassle for me.
Your decision, you have to be comfortable to enjoy the car. It's really an easy uninstall for the seats, and you can buy boxes at uline.com and arrange for freight very easily. Lastly, doubt you'll have issues swapping the Gt3 seats but again you decision.

Glad you found the car you want. But your Porsche shops are just plain wrong about warranty, etc. The 997 is made at the factory with a wide variety of seats. The biggest differential is whether you order heated seats or not. Plug and play and my dealer has done a few swaps themselves and it was a 2 hour labor charge, no issues whatsoever. Others in CA have done what I PM'd you about - drop their car off at the dealer, guy with stock / sport seats does likewise, both get a loaner car, both return to the dealer 3 hours later, seats are swapped, other guy pays the bill and hands the guy that had Sport Buckets a check for $3500. I know you made your decision, but wanted to put this in the thread for future readers.

john - for what its worth, i have a set of CF sport buckets (the ones with the folding backrest) and they are exceptionally comfortable - even for longer drives. i use my 997.2 C2S as a DD and have no issues with the seats. numerous ppl have also commented how comfortable the seats are as well... in the end go with what you most comfortable with... wouldnt worry too much about passing up a good deal, i'm sure there will be other "deals" available w/ exactly what you want...

hope this helps...

This is interesting. I have a set of black Adaptive Sort Seats with alcantara inserts from a 2010 GT3 that I would like to install in my 09 Cayman S which has the standard manual seats with electric recline. I've been trying to find a dealer to do this so I may try one of the above dealers.

Other wise I'll have another set of seats decorating my basement.

I recently put a seat of sports seats from a GT3RS in my car. Originally it came with the power comfort seats. The swap was easy. Four bolts and the wiring harness is the same for our cars no matter which seats.

I just worked a seat swap into a 997 turbo purchase. The car had the full leather comfort seats with heat and full power. They are black. They had a set of sports adaptive seats with suede centers and red stitching laying in the back. They had the swap done at porsche and it took about a week. Know I have to figure out what to do with the old seats. Anyone know what they are worth?

Took about a week?? Really? For what? It only takes about an hour or so to swap both seats.

Axxlrod,

I think the direction you went is the easier of the two. I would love to find a set of the GT3 RS or GT3 manual sport seats. I've missed 2 sets on here.

Nice looking car.

They said that they were having problems with the heated seats. Who knows how long it really took them to get around to starting the job though. It was worth it and Im very happy with the work and the seats!

adaptive sports seat swap

I own a 2008 carrera with standard seat with power recline and the rest of the adjustment is manaul. I have the opportunity to get a set of adaptive sports seat with all power adjustment . the Technician I consulted about the swap said that it will never work on my car because of the different wiring harness. is there any way to make this swap work?
Thanks,
David

Pidolee,

Since your car was built with manual seats, it was not equipped with all the wiring harnesses the adaptive seats need. I have no idea how they could be added, if at all.

What you could do instead is install a set of sports seats. They are the same as adaptive seats, but have only power recline (same as your original seats), the rest is manual adjust.

I will be selling a set of sports seats soon that came out of a GT3RS (they have alcantara inserts), but shipping them to you might be an issue.

Thank you for the advise. I am interested with your seats. I would drive over to pick them up if you are close by. I am in Va. Beach.
BTW another porsche Tech I talk with said the memory module on the adaptive sports seats can be bypass and just directly wire and power the other motors. the recline, fore and aft and up and down controls will work. the air bag sensor will be turned off by PWIS. He said it will take some time to wire the system BUT at what cost?
