997.2 Intake question

Installed the BMC hi flow air filters today and have a couple questions. The install was very easy. The air intake box includes two pieces. The top piece is held to the bottom by 8 torx size 25 bolts. After removing bolts had to remove a gray clip that snap onto the right side of the top plastic piece and it just lifts out. The filters are held in by 1 torx size 20 bolt. Here are my questions.
First question, on each side of the bottom plastic piece are three small windows facing the engine that are made of what seems to be like a plastic latex material. What is their purpose?
Second question, the bottom intake piece looks like it is held in by a single rubber grommet (blue rubber piece) towards the back of the vehicle. This seems to hold the right side of the bottom piece in place but the left(drivers) side has some play. Is there anything under the bottom plastic intake piece that holds it to the car frame that might have come loose?
Thanks

Acoustically transparent openings to allow induction sound.

The are two of those grommets as I recall. Allows for a flex mount of the air box. Designed to be wobbly. The way to remove the bottom is to simply pull up while working the box back and forth.

sayboy, One grommet is easily seen towards rear of vehicle..do you know where the second grommet is located? I assume under the bottom intake housing towards the driver side...I loooked everywhere else, seems to be hidden.

thanks mdrums.

ps Also did not like the fit of the filters with the supplied clamps so since the factory ones don't use them I left them off.

Had the same problem. There is no room to tighten the supplied clamps but I found a position that I could get at least a couple of turns in with a screwdriver. The next time I pull them for cleaning I think I'll try a couple of zip ties and see if that makes securing the filters a little easier. I wasn't comfortable with leaving the clamps out even with the torx screw in place.

I used the supplied clamps in addition to the factory mounting point. I was able to tighten it all down. I took a pic of it when I did it....(before I put the cover back on, just laid the sticker on there for effect)

No discernible difference. I have heard the 09+ fabspeed intake, now that makes some noise!

I think my intake box is a little different than yours. Even with my cover off like in your picture, there is a lip around where the filters are seated which actually recesses the clamp enough that it was difficult to get a screwdriver in to work the clamp. Yours looks fairly open and accessable compared to mine. Is your's an '09 or an earlier model?

ive got the BMC Filters too, Personally I thought the filters sounded a little louder than stock on higher rpms... your using the stock airbox right? I think that bmc sticker is confusing me a little bit lol
