Fabspeed 997 Maxflo Competition Air Intake?
Not at all....depends on who you ask. What I found out is it really is dealer dependant but the warranty is not with the dealer it is with Porsche. I suggest you call Porsche Cars North America and ask them and make your own decesion from what they tell you.
I did just that last summer and spoke with a zone rep at my dealer about mods and I found out.....changing the muffler will not void any powertrain warranty. Changing the air box intake,, headers, cats, ECU, Throttle Body or any engine internals will void the powertrain warranty and especially with the ECU can void the entire cars warranty. Do people have warranty issues from intake and exhaust or ECU mods? Not that I've heard of.
A lot of dealers do sell some of these parts that could void warranty so it just all depends. Simple bolts ons such as this Fabspeed intake will probably not cause you any warranty issues as long as you DO NOT over oil you air filter. I ran BMC air filters in my 06 and 07 and never had any issues becaue I did not over oil them when I cleaned them.

Not trying to be a pot stirrer but I have to say the intial dyno on the car is quite low at 291hp. I know different dyno's will have different results but 291? My E46 M3 on a dynojet stock made 282rwhp. It seems that this dyno is 10hp low to begin with. It could be that the OEM fitler was quite worn and dirty and just the fact of having a clean airfilter can make up quite a bit of the difference on this dyno. I have seen 997S's dyno even with crappy Cali 91 octane come in at 300rwhp and some with 93 octane come in right at 310rwhp. In fact some of the baseline dyno's that Fabspeed did on other parts has the car coming in at 306rwhp..granted it was on a different dyno but dynojets are normally a little optimistic.
I'm not saying the dynos are fudged just some of the horsepower gain can be attributed to just a fresh airfilter and proper maintainence, not to mention the higher flowing filter. On these kind of dyno's I really wish a fresh OEM filter would have been installed then dyno.

Alex at Fabspeed I have a question:
Do you have the intake pipes for people that have the GT3 wing with the opening for the air on both side? (Same setup as the x51 airbox)

Sorry for the long delay in writing a brief review but here we go.
As implied from my earlier post, I've been driving with the new Fabspeed part for some time now, having replaced the EVOMS intake that I installed on the car well over a year ago.
The reason for the change was really just for experimentation and brand interest. The EVOMS part has worked exactly as most describe but the design and materials of the Fabspeed piece was really interesting, and since I have been extremely pleased with their mufflers and x-pipe on my car, I thought I'd give this a go.
The verdict is quite positive. First of all, for those who care about such things, the shape and cf materials are absolutely beautiful. The engine compartment is simplified - as compared to both the OEM and EVOMS airbox. It's stunning actually and access to the rest of the engine, particularly once the cf heat shield is (very simply) removed is enhanced.
Driving the car is similar to the EVOMS airbox. That is, a small amount of improved mid range and top end power (butt dyno measurements only) and a howl at those same RPM's that has compelled me to drop the car in to third and placing my foot down firmly at highway speeds. Just incredible.
Both EVOMS and Fabspeed generate great sound and a bit of power but the Fabspeed seems to do so beginning at lower RPM and the effect seems even more pronounced.
I would say that if you own the EVOMS piece (also excellent quality), and unless you really value a great looking engine compartment, I wouldn't make the change.
If you are using the stock airbox, I'd definitely recommend the Fabspeed.
One caveat - likely minor:
The EVOMS piece looks to seal intake air from the heat of the engine compartment better than the Fabspeed. However the EVOMS has more circuitous plumbing than the other. But Fabspeed seems to have lost a chance of getting the best of both by not surrounding the air filter with a small compartment (similar to the EVOMS filter surround piece) that directs intake air solely from the vents in the engine lid. It's a project that I'm considering taking on myself, and I'd like to hear from the Fabspeed folks as to why this was omitted.
Other than this potential improvement, it's all good.
Oh and one more thing. Not a single CEL.

So Still haven't pick a intake yet. So if you guys had to choose between the Fabspeed or the EVOM which one would you pick? The only CON I have with the Fabspeed product is the heat from the engine. Other than that they both do the same job. Right?

Here is a Photo of the new Intake setup. As you can see, it has a large heat shield that blocks the hot air from rising up to the intake. It also site right below the snorkel on the trunk lid so it gets hit with cold air as the car is moving. The factory airbox and the V Flow intake are plastic so they allow heat to pass through much easier then our Carbon Fiber setup, so heat isn't a problem.

Put the Fabspeed on about a month ago. Very happy with it so far. Mid-range throttle response is the only thing that I noticed improvement in, that and the sound. I have gundo'ed cans which sounded great before the CAI, but now at WOT.....its rediculous. Plan to add Fabspeed cats and mufflers after the first of the year.
The problem with all of these is heat soak.
that is why all porsche cars have air boxes (even cup cars), there needs to be a separation from the engine bay and intake, otherwise you are just sucking in hot air which is way worse!!!
The engine fan in your bay goes on at 220º, that means that the air in the engine bay is 220º, and that is the temp of the air going into your cai.
The best intake is the X51 or you can retrofit a cup intake into your car.
There is only one CAI that I would put on my car and its one fully developed for grand am racing.
