quick poll on damptronics
I dunno about buying used suspension components - makes me kinda nervous...anyone else?
I suppose if you could try them out before you bought them, and be sure they weren't abused, I would consider it. I just picked up a new set of bilstein coilovers from AWE during the sale with a very good discount.
I have had Damptronics & several other aftermarket suspension parts(toe links, rear upper control arms, drop links, roll bars) for about 1.5 years now. No issues. When I had the 40K mile service done, I had my mechanic "nut & bolt" the entire undercarriage, an hours time with a torque wrench.
Damptronics are by the far the best street oriented coilover for the PASM equipped 997's....

I had mine installed in Aug-Sept and went to the track. In wet conditions and under load, the car threw a CEL, PASM Sport Mode Failure, and locked the suspension into sport mode. A Durametric diagnostic revealed several fault codes but none that the software supported, ie it didn't know what was wrong so we re-examined the install and found nothing awry. We reset the system x3 and finally the codes cleared. There's a thread on this particular instance. Everything has been good since including another track session. Despite my troubles, I would very much recommend the mod for what you get out of it. Best,
Happy New Year!
I know many of you already know this, but this is just for those that don't...
Porsche contracted Bilstein to supply the springs and shocks for all Porsche cars that come with PASM from the factory. So in essense it is a bit of a sideways move in regards to suppliers. Porsche has also used in past H&R as a spring supplier for some of their GT cars...fyi.
The only difference is now that instead of a non height adjustable spring and shock combo, you will have a height adjustable coilover set up that works just like OEM in regards to the sport suspension button on the dash. Hard and soft...
If Porsche is comfortable with Bilstein, then so are we.
Just PLEASE read the install notes BEFORE you install your suspension.
Also, dkrbrent from the "Bilstein Help" post was taken care of in our eyes very generously for something Bilstein feels was no fault of their own.
To date that is the only case of that every happening that we know of and it seems a little odd that it happened twice on the same car? Our stance is and was that this was purely an install issue.
Lastly....
Today is the final day of our HOLIDAY SALE! Last chance to get some Bilstein's at a nice savings...

One thing to note about the bilsteins is if you get them and decide you want something more aggressive for the track further down the road. Then you can pull them out of the car and have bilstein revalve them and throw on some manlier springs for about 1400. So you really don't need to rip them out and spend another 5k on moton or jrz's. One of the benefits for buying a used set is you can get some stiffness up their with the jrz's for 2-3k less
I just installed mine within less than 300km,it's great as far as i can say. Mine is 2S,it's lighter body than your C4S though. But I think Bilstein has pretty solid track record for its Germany quality and should check with your installation shop.Wish all best for your baby, it needs that reinforced suspension run properly for sure. And i am not able to tolerate any wierd sound when i turn or not turn from my P car, either!
I agree with the prior post. Yes many of us do buy used cars, thus the used parts. But while the ratio of cost/benefit would compel me to go the used car route, it would also compel me to replace key parts if their level of wear was in question.
