Cheapest way to improve exhaust note
I didn't at all mind the stock sound of my 997.2 C2S. I don't understand the complaints - sounds more Porsche than my 997.1 sounded in stock form.
That being said, I needed more volume at speed for the track. With helmet on and wind noise, it was impossible to hear where the engine was (shift by sound, not by looking at the tach).
I found Alex's SharkWerks primary bypass to be just what I needed. It's civil at street speed, though a little louder and deeper. When you wind the revs up, it really opens up and screams.
Extremely reasonable on price, easy to install (I had a shop do it, charged me 1 hour).

+1. The intake really resonates over 5k and makes a load roar. With the sport button on, it gets loud enough to turn heads. I still debate the PSE installation myself. Would be huge plus to turn the volume on or off. Take the wife and kids out often enough and I wouldn't want full loud on to **** them off all the time. Wife friendly is always a plus!
Why is it that something must be expensive to be of value to add/modify a Porsche?
My $120 muffler modification sounds stellar. I would be embarassed if I spent $1200 for some cans only to discover the gundo hacked mufflers sound just as good.
Not all about money.

I feel the goal in modifying is to create a car at the best potential to suit a person's taste. Cost --whether it be expensive OR inexpensive --ought not be the primary objective.
There is a lot of junk that's expensive .
There's a lot of junk that's cheap.
I feel the top priority ought to be what makes the most sense for the car given the desired performance level, build quality, reliability, while factoring in the ease for those working on the car , their ability to warranty it, the long term testability of it , as well as the resale potential if it succeeds or fails.
It's just a matter of slap dash bargain shopping NOR is it buying the most bling either. The priority focus is hinged on making overall ownership experience of that car ... number 1.

Hey thanks for all the advice guys. After this i decided that cheap might not be the way to go. For now i think i will buy the muffler bypass but one day hope to have fabspeed/tubi or something along those lines exhaust. Thanks

Interesting thread - it's clear everyone has their own ideal when it comes to sound.
I loved my old setup - PSE always on + Fabspeed intake on my 997.1
Sounded killer.
Problem was that the PSE internal muffler welds broke. CPO did not cover replacement which was disappointing.
Thought it would be a good idea to replace them with the AWE 200 cell cats + the AWE cans.
Never really warmed up to the sound of the AWE cans though - a little bit too tame for my taste. Replaced the AWE cans today with some Gundo hacked mufflers and it is pure rock and roll. Very loud @ WOT but civil enough on part throttle.
Happy again.

Now, OP if you are serious then SW bipass or tubis....you won't go wrong with either of these. And, cost should not be any consideration either
