Cheapest way to improve exhaust note

Except for the gundo hack, what is the cheapest way to improve my 997.2 4s exhaust note. I want it to be louder, but something that isnt too expensive.
Would you go with headers, muffler delete, or just straight pipes.

What do you think of shark werks muffler delete? Is there anything better/cheaper?

Thanks Guys,

Toechsel

There's a few options out there. My suggestion would be to replace the side mufflers. The Sharkwerks center muffler delete is also a very nice option. It really depends on the sound you're looking for.

Check this link:

If you're interested in any of those solutions, get in touch with me for special 6Speed pricing.

Well there are a couple of options :

You can go with sharkwerks muffler delete or other similar products for a somewhat sportier sound.

The side muffler deletes are crazy loud. Unless you like that so its a matter of taste.

Also dont forget, if youre looking slightly more growl then you can go for an air intake.

Rennsport one also have their own muffler which is competitively priced and is of good quality and has a fierce sound. I have one installed.

Bypass pipes will cause some drone and will be very loud. Im not saying that is a bad thing but it really depends what sound you want.

Well, the least expensive way is to buy used. Try these:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...xport-ver.html

Keep checking the FS section, and put out a WTB post.

Also, see if you can find someone who ditched their OEM sport exhaust for an aftermarket. Although heavier, it has a very nice sound.

Even cheaper, crank up the tunes and ignore the anemic, even pathetic standard factory exhaust note.

I went Cargraphic sides and just had the Sharkwerks bypass installed (but have not heard it yet).

Thumbs up 997.2

I just not more than 2 weeks ago put on Tubi on my new 997.2 4s. I did it myself and it was pretty easy. sound is very nice and the factory stuff weighed so much more. I have no fancy dyno, but based on my pants, it seems faster. Sound is normal to about porsche sports exhaust under 3k rpm, over 3k, a whole different animal. Bought mine at Rennsport one, and those guys were available on a sat. even to help me out with questions. I am very happy.

I don't understand the question. Why would anyone buy a 100K car and then look for the "cheapest" anything to add to it ? I would say remain stock -- that's free.

exhaust?

I agree, keep it stock, buy a Harley with straight pipes for noise or a Mustang 5.0....................the stock Porsches all have their own distinct sound and would not change nuthin.........................only my 2 cents.....

While I am a HUGE fan of keeping things stock, particularly a P-Car, the 997 sounds like a Honda in stock exhaust form. The other day the mechanic was test driving my car and I couldn't even tell he had left or had come back because I couldn't even hear the car leaving/returning. Hell, a Chevy makes MORE noise ! So I have decided to keep the stock mufflers of my 997.1 S and alter them with a partial by-pass using a 1.5" stainless pipe connecting the inlet/outlet pipes of the mufflers so that I will be able to hear the car. Others have used the 2" pipe alteration and it sounds a bit loud to my ear so I decided to scale it back a bit with the 1.5" pipe. Should sound nearly identical to the Porsche Sports Exhaust Option (that costs $2500) but will cost all of $300 which includes welding and labor for removal and re-installation of exhausts. So car will remain "stock" but at least with some sound ............
