Retrofitting sport chrono pod (pod only)

Has anyone retrofitted the sport chrono pod (just the pod, not the electronics) into a non-sport chrono car? I need to do to create a factory look for a multi-gauge, 52mm, that I am going to install that will display multiple values including sensors for boost, afr, egt, as well as read OBDII data, etc.

If anyone has done this, can you please let me know? Also, can someone please measure the size of the opening in the face of the pod? I believe it's right around 52mm.

Finally, are pods available in leather and/ or whatever the non-leather option is? I just ordered a pod from Suncoast, and don't know if it's leather or the other stuff. I don't have a leather dash, it's "the other stuff".
Thanks!

Hey Cattman....I just tried to measure my "Wart" and it's kind of tough because it's not exactly straight out of the pod. It looks like it has a little angled piece added to it to kick it off in the drivers direction. Anyway...I did my best with my vernier calipers, and it looks like the outside edge of the face of the guage itself is 64 mm. If I had repair manual I'd pop it out and get the exact detail....but this is as brave as I can be at this moment.
Good luck, sounds like a great idea and neat project.

You may already know this, but many don't: the sport chrono face can be angled to face driver's side OR passenger side (it swivels).

Make sure to take photos of the install if you end up doing this Cattman! I was thinking about putting my radar detector display in the chrono pod. Thanks!

The wart will pop right out of the dash easily. Just stick a large flat head screwdriver (cover dash with a rag first) under the edge of the wart and pry it up. It comes right up. You can then unhook the wiring harness and you're done.

cattman: fyi. the housing itself sits BELOW the plane of the dash. if you're thinking about placing this on a non-pod enabled car you'll have to cut a hole in the dash (don't ask how i know this).
you're better off starting from scratch. and designing your own pod

If you don't have a chrono enabled dash, don't want to cut a hole into your existing dash (this can be tricky), and have extra cash to spend: pick up a used chrono enabled dash at a salvage yard.

You can get one for 1 grand (full leather) and under (viny). Check out ladismantler.

It will be far easier to retrofit the pod itself than the dash, and that's what I will do. I'll post a DIY when I get the parts.

If you fabricate an adapter plate to raise the pod to clear the dash it might work.

I'll have to examine the pod unit when it gets here, but my thought is that it would easier and look perfectly factory to trim the lower part of the pod (with dremel and sander) that sits in the recess of the dash, and retrofit a way to adhere it, and simply drill a hole into the dash for the sensor wires. The goal is for this to look like the car came with it, and that's how it'll look or I won't do it.

I should know more tomorrow when the pod gets here.
