what to do while I wait...
what to do while I wait...
Ok really, this is becoming a huge issue. I am ONE month away from being in line to purchase. I spend half my day looking at this site and others linked from here and the other half trying not to think about it. Someone out there must be able to suggest something to do in the mean time.
First things first, what do you mean by "being online to purchase?" Is your dealer waiting for an allocation from Porsche that permits you to actually place the order that you have decided on? If it is something else, please ignore what follows.
If so, I can completely sympathize. I spent last summer looking at cars and plugging different variables into the "Build your Porsche" on the Porsche web site. I finally made up my mind in early September and was told that we would have to wait for the allocation. Time passed. And passed. And then, sometime in December, I was told that Porsche was not opening any allocations for the car that I wanted. None. Zero.
So I stated looking at cars listed online trying to decide what was indispensable and and what was not. Not a fun time. And then my dealer found another dealers' unused allocation for a car similar to my preferences (a C4S rather than a vanilla C4) that could still be modified to my specs. I told him to go ahead and finally on December 14, the (revised) order went in and Porsche accepted it.
The car was finally built last month. It took two weeks longer than predicted by the Porsche computer but, at long last, I received the VIN yesterday. It is supposed to take another four to six weeks for the car to get from the factory to my dealer.
So ... the point of this long tale seems to be that you may have a long wait. (in my case, over a half a year.) And there may be bumps in the road. But if you want the exact car that you have decided is right for you (model, colors, wheels etc), it will finally happen. On the other hand, if you are prepared to be a bit more flexible, maybe you should look to see what is available that almost meets your specifications.
As for what you should do until you get your new car, I suggest that you read the various online sites dedicated to the 997 and get as up to speed as you can. There are also magazines and books. There is lots to learn.
Good luck!
