I used to have a 997S, a 986S, and a 951. It was fun to have a rear-engine, a mid-engine, and a front-engine from the same factory; and drove them back-to-back to enjoy the differences among them.

I don't know about a combination of Carrera coupe and Cayman, but in my case the convertible Boxster S and the Carrera S coupe really gave me different sensation of enjoyment. One day I could enjoy a top-down mid-engine roadster, and another day I could choose the torque-y rear-engine coupe. I really enjoyed that.

Regards,

I too like to make a choice between 2 different Porsches in the AM. I cycle through Porsches rather quickly, but at the moment I have an '09 C2S (coupe, 6spd) and an '87 Targa. Although the same 911 lineage, they are very different cars. Perhaps consider a similar combo -- new 911 + old 911?

I adore the Cayman, but a 911 coupe and a Cayman seem a bit redundant.

IMO 911 for DD and a Boxster Spyder for weekend fun.

And maybe a stripped Cayman "GT3" build for tracking only.

.. I need more parking space.

I know this will likely provoke flames, but if you're going to consider a GT-3, I'd take a close look at a GT-R. Dual-clutch, gobs of power, AWD, remarkable performance, roomy. That and a 911.2S and I'd be smiling.

Cayman though - too similar to me. For a more practical DD, I'd go with an M3.

The GTR is an amazing car but it is a completely different niche than the GT3. The GT3 is raw, wild, hard to control, a beast to DD. The GTR is all computers and turbos and gizmos and magic. It's more like a TT.

I have given your idea a ton of thought

only my cars are going to be 997S, and new boxster spyder. I currently drive two cars that are not exactly practical using the 997 as a DD and my Gallardo as a weekend car and only driving the BMW for trips to the super market, or taking the dog to the park. It is very fun getting up and realizing what ever you chose to drive it will be fun. My only issue is I'm running out of garage space. If I had one more slot the boxster spyder would already be living in it, and to be honest the car that would be neglected does not start with a P.

update--
yes, the C2S pdk blew me away, and will be my daily driver. Getting one this week if all goes well.
I suspect that I will not want a 2.9 cayman as car #2 if the C2S is the DD, so I'd be open to something else.

the C2s with PDK really does make a great DD

I think you will enjoy it tremendously. I really don't feel like I'm giving anything up to use it as a commuter.

I've had all 3- Boxster, Caymen S and the 997C2S.

Out of those 3, the Boxster was the most fun. And out of those 3, I felt the Caymen was a far superior handler. That being said, the Caymen was the least daily driveable for me. It just felt way too cramped compared to the C2S and the Boxster resolved those issues with dropping the top on a long day coming home from work. I still don't get how the Boxster is cheaper then the Caymen since it is a droptop.

Anyways, I would choose the 911 and the 987 over the Caymen in a heartbeat. I'm actually considering getting a 987 with PDK once prices drop or when they have a nicely equipped leftover.

boxster S was probably the most fun car i have ever owned. Doesnt have the hp and tq of the 997 S but the handling and driving sensation is amazing...i wouldnt mind having a panamera (lexus LS, M5) and a box S

I'm getting one of the (new) unsold 2009 C2S pdk porsche racing green launch cars (an unpopular color, and no nav).

I think that color is spectacular.

(btw, I'm already preparing my garage floor for the possible soot, and am buying a case or 2 of mobil one oil...lol)

Congrats !

be sure to post some pics !

2nd Pcar ? my suggestion would be the new Spyder

2nd Car? how about the 2011 BMW 535i - cause it would also be nice to have two different-styled cars..

hmmm....don't like the looks that much of the new 535i--and I definitely don't want to take my chances with that engine.

If I was going to get a four door sedan, which I doubt, I'd give the CTS and Ford Taurus SHO a shot at least.
